Well that's what I've used for ever, but they just have finally had it. So I don't know, guess I was just looking for a alternative that didn't make such a mess when they come apart and then the wind blows the hay everywhere.

Do you ever shoot fixed broad heads? I don't see that in the advertisement?. Some backstops get worn out much quicker if broad heads are used.

No I have a old block target I use for my broadheads, this would just be for field points.

Didn't see what its madenout of on their site after a quick look but what about a stall mat? It may be a slab from a large, very large radial tire. If there is a local source for that probably be cheaper. One thing about the radial tire deal, it can be very hard to pull an arrow from it.

That's true but that is generally my stopping point, I shoot til one goes wild. I probably should stop before but I figure that's my body's way of saying stop dumbass you've had enough.

I have one of the previous versions(bought about 2 yrs ago). It works well as a backup for a target. I use mine as a backstop for my 3-d deer target. Can't remember what version I have, but stops my arrows(280 fps). Arrows penetrate about 4". hope this helps!

Sounds like you guys just need to shoot better :) no need for a backstop
I hear ya, but I will use it for the 100-120 yard range. Now while I usually hit the target at that range I have been known to miss, same with my friends. I guess I just like a little insurance incase I do miss.

How do you hang stall mats? Can you put grommets in them?
I just use quarter inch bolts and fender washers. Two metal fence posts on the side and a 2X4 across the top (bottom edge of mat just touching ground). If you want it higher use 4X4 posts on the side. Two man job to lift and hold those mats, they're heavy.
Kind of hard to pull arrows out of them, good incentive not to miss the target.

I have a shield and am happy with it. I mostly use it in my basement where something like hay bales are impractical and I like that I can pull it down and move it into my garage etc ... I don't have anywhere I can shoot farther than ~34 yds (into my garage) at my house and having this helps if something goes wrong. In my case a family of 5 and we've had the whoops moment where it's saved the day.

this is exactly what I do. If you shoot outserts, they better be glued in well. My mat has pulled out a few over the years. I Don't shoot outserts anymore so no longer an issue.

Stall mats are a good idea. I have been using a couple pieces of left over 1” foam insulation with a thin plywood backing.
