I've had several people email me about sending them my 2012 gear list and thought a thread about this would be a good idea.

My gear list changes from one hunt to another, so I will post a couple different items in certain categories and when/why I would choose one over the other.

Here's what I would like you to list:

1) The number of days your staying
2) The state you'll be hunting in
3) Time of year/season you'll be hunting
4) Animal/species you will hunting
5) Your weapon...Rifle, Bow, muzzle Loader

I will have my list/lists up tomorrow (picked up my daughter tonight and spending family time at the moment) and will add a few photos of everything laid out as well.

Thanks for your participation in this as it will be a very good thread for people to learn from.

Also remember this means listing everything from boxers to pack, not just a list of what you will carry in your pack. If you have a scale maybe don't weigh each item but add a total weight so people get a good understanding of the different weights we all carry. I currently am at 66lbs for everything but my naked 200lb body on a 10 day hunt.

Once hunting season starts, I will add 1.5 pounds of food per day for each additional day and my bow and hunting gear weigh just at 10 pounds. So a 7 day wilderness hunt will add 16 more pounds total.

This is everything except the clothes on my back, which are what I will hunt in everyday with the exception of one extra pair of socks and one extra pair of skivvies on the the 7 day trips.

That's a very solid list. Seeing your optics section makes me feel very fortunate that I'm neither a serious trophy hunter nor an avid Mule deer hunter. That's a ton of weight. :)

How about a picture instead...here's what my gear for my week-long, Colorado high country (Unit 43), archery mule deer hunt looks like (Sept. 1-8).

backpackinggear.jpg

Here's all you see above (and some you don't see)...Please feel free to comment on my list. The total weight without food right now is somewhere around 45-50 lbs depending on how much clothing I take and possibly removing some redundant items. I'm also going with a buddy, so we may distribute some of the items below (such as the water fliters, the tarp, knives, and only bring one stove). This is my first hunt like this, so some of the gear I'm taking may be redundant, but I want to see what works best for future hunts. Like I said, without food or water I'm at about 47 lbs with the items below...I know I can cut out some weight by not taking so much clothing (and distributing some items between the two of us).

I really am getting close to my list. I am lazy and my gear seems like it is changing by the week. I will say this after reading everybody's list that I do not have enough clothing and I have cheap crap and am embarrassed to put it in a list.... Anyone still using UA? ;)

Yeah, my gloves :) I wish I had half the gear you have at your age and your a family man so no reason to be embarrassed, took me 12 years to build up my gear fund and finally start using it.
