The Federal Ammo announcement

My basic 143 ELDX with Stabal 6.5 loaded to factory specs shoot 2720 fps, hit 1800 fps at 850 yards out of a 20" barrel. Why would I want more recoil and $70 a box ammunition? What is it doing for me? I get it I am probably not the target customer here but honestly, who is?

6.5 creed isn't enough, they have to compete with the 6.5 prc.

The cases aren't readily user friendly for reloaders, so, you have to keep buying from them.

1. That just isn’t accurate.

2. Reloaders make up alot of people on these forums. But a very very low percentage of overal rifle users.

#2, reloaders ----- just like doing it and tinkering --- like to push the limits, and/or like to bring it down and shoot lower powders ---- looking for better accuracy, thus getting into that tinkering zone ----- different barrels may or may not need different bullets and propellants, so thus back to tinkering and making it better. Those steel cases aren't easily reloaded after being shot.

It’s a cool hobby. I think reloaders have pushed the envelope and are the reason people like federal have innovated.

That said, reloaders seem to get mad at announcements like this because it takes away the advantage the reloaders have had over us factory ammo shooters.

My non-scientific findings from reading the 6.5 success thread, is that it appears a lot of the reloaders are pushing the 6.5CM to near PRC velocities (just based on stated impact velocities at various ranges). I think this plays into the guys who just want to shoot factory ammo, and potentially want to shoot a shorter barrel but don’t want to give up the MV. It doesn’t appeal to me, as the only 6.5CM I own now is the kids’ gun, and the factory Hornady ammo gives me enough MV out of the 18” barrel for how far they will shoot, but I bet this sells well. Kind of poor timing with ammo not being available until August though.
