the dread Remington 700 trigger...

I put Timneys in my Rem 700s and have had no problems. They don't cost that much and are not hard to do yourself. Timneys come with an excellent set of instructions.

I replaced my factory M700 trigger with a Timney.
I tried adjusting the factory trigger but it always seemed gritty.
The Timney just breaks and all I had to adjust was the weight

I replace EVERY Remington trigger with a Timney or Trigger Tech adjustable. I’ve never had an issue. Keep the weight within the specifications of the trigger and you are good to go!

I just replaced a 600 trigger that was never sent in on the recall with a 700 Calvin Elite.....

I've got a 700 BDL in 243, heavy varmint barrel, that upon occasion just likes to go off for the hell of it. I think she's 'surprised' me 3 or 4 times, usually when taking the gun off safety at the conclusion of a hunt. I've read enough to know this is a known problem with the older walker triggers (My guess is the gun was mfr'd in the mid 80's).

It was my first firearm purchase (used, in the early 90's), is the most accurate gun I've got (several 3 shot 7/8" groups at 200 yards), and has a very pretty piece of walnut for the stock. So, despite not having shot it much for many years, there is real sentimental value in the old gal.

So my question: will putting a Timney into the gun fully correct the problem? I had a Timney put in my Ruger MK77 270 10 years ago and like the gun a lot more ever since.

This problem is inherent to the design. After markets help but don't fix it, except the geissele super 700

I have had Remington triggers I have adjusted to 2.5# then hit with plastic hammer fire, more so below 2.5#. I’ve never had an issue at 3# and up, still shoot 3 Remingtons with 3# pull and no trouble. The Remingtons I put Timney EH in are set 1.75# to 2# and no issues. I never fooled with the sear and over travel on the Rem 700 triggers.

Not saying it doesn’t happen but I have had a lot of 700s and never had an issue with a trigger adjusted or not. Again not saying it doesn’t happen. We had a never death careless mistake on a pre64 roughly 20 years ago and since then no one hunts with a round in the chamber. If we load a round on a close stalk it’s immediately unloaded. Glad we made this change and my kids have never know anything different. Gives me a good piece of mind
