The Argali Clothing Project

If you're signed up for our email list for the Clothing Project I have a more detailed explanation, but here is part of what I shared on that email about our Octane Jacket we are working on. More to come on this one soon.

Octane Jacket Overview
The Octane is an active insulation jacket designed to be warm but also move moisture quickly and efficiently. Think of the kind of jacket you can wear on cool mornings as an outerlayer, and in colder weather hunts you can wear to hike up a mountain. It is designed to layer over our Guide Air Fleece and function as an outer layer or an insulating layer.

Like all of our products, it is built with premium materials and insulation to have a very high warmth to weight ratio, move with you, and be quiet. Importantly, this jacket’s face fabric has a matte finish, so it won’t produce any sheen.

The first thing you notice about the Octane is that there are two different color blocks on this jacket. That’s because we are using a different fabric in areas that need more ventilation; in particular where you pack sits and under your arms.

Happy to answer as much as I can about the jacket now, but we will be releasing more on this in the coming months as a part of "phase 2" of our clothing line.

I thought I was signed up for the email list but must not have been. I am now..

Active insulation like a Primaloft Evolve? Or more of an "enclosed" insulation like the SG cirque or Kuiu Kenai?

We have another jacket with enclosed insulation, but the Octane has an exposed active insulation. Most soon on the fabric details I promise!

Quick update on clothing availability for any of you that have been waiting or wanting to buy the Vesper, Torex or Guide Air Fleece. The products will all finally be for sale on our website this Thursday, April 9th at 9 a.m. MST. Its been a long time coming so I appreciate everyone's patience.

And for all of you that placed a pre-order, I can't thank you enough. We randomly placed some gifts in pre-order packages, and I'm hoping that some of you on this thread were a part of those gifts because there were some good ones!

Argali Technical Clothing

No gifts. But pre-order received. Quality is noticeable off the jump. Side vents are perfect length in IMO. I ordered one of each item and I’m pleased and excited to test run them all. Vespers the most.

@Brad@Argali You weren’t kidding about making these quiet. They feel very high quality. Seams and sewing shows high QC also. Fit in the seat/thigh is on the slimmer side, especially on the Vesper. Inseams are noticeably longer than other pants in my typical size. I’ve got lifter thighs, but I’m not huge. Guys with really big thighs might struggle. I’m very curious to see how the DWR and durability is, considering how quiet these are. Typically it’s a direct tradeoff IME. Seems like an awesome product so far, will be happy to run these this season.

Edit to add: I measured these up agains some of my other pants (also 32s) measured my true waist and, checked the Argali size chart. I definitely need to size up to a 34. l've been a 32 in every pant l've ever worn since high school, so to be honest I didn't even check my measurements against the size chart before ordering. 100% on me, and pretty dumb haha. Exchange process has been smooth so far. This will likely change my assessment of the slightly tight seat/thigh as well.

Vespers arrived.

Jury is out/undecided

Obviously first impressions wearing around the house. Lots to like, quality appears high.

Fabric is meh at first blush. Thicker and more substantial than I was expecting for a hot weather pant and it seems to lack some stretch in one direction. Circumference has good stretch length along the leg not so much. Not overly quite right out of the package.

I bind each step that has any knee lift. Bind is between the front of knee and seat. Makes the seat seam ride up a bit.

Waist is somewhat sharp on the inside edge.

Ankles are SLIM, but calves are great and I have big calves. Ankles I have to work at to get over my boot top. Will see if they catch and make the knee-seat bind worse.

I ordered per the sizing instructions, waist, length etc are good to great. Thighs have good room and I have bigger thighs than most, to the point I have to go up a waist size at times for thigh fit.

If I was trying on in the store these would probably stay in the store.
I have them so will put them through a proper test before finalizing thoughts. Brad has put too much thought, effort and testing into these to judge that quickly.

The Vesper just doesn’t wow me like the OV pant did out of the package

Appreciate the feedback. Give them some use and let me know how they work for you.

Appreciate the comments. We’ve had some big thighed people wear them with no fit issues. I agree that typically softer means less durable but we’ve tested the hell out of both pants and they are better than almost anything I’ve used. Not indestructible by any means, but I hope you’re surprised by the long term durability.

I’m looking forward to seeing some blood and dirt on everyone’s clothes!

I only got to try my vespers on for about 5 minutes last night so my impressions are pretty limited.

@doverpack12 I agree that the fabric was a little heavier than expected but if it breathes well that may not be a problem.

I would have preferred a little less taper through the leg opening, I feel like these may get hung up on boots/laces going from sitting to standing.

I like the pockets and the vents seem good although they maybe could be a little longer.

The biggest problem is that I ordered the wrong size so they are really tight in the waist, guess I will find out how well the exchange process works.
