Just so I don’t bury the lead, we (Argali) are making a technical clothing line that will be available in early 2026, and this is my *official* announcement of our clothing line. (For all of you that saw my previous thread on the problems with current hunting clothing brands, this won’t come as a surprise).

The Argali Clothing Project is our approach to creating the most functional, layerable western big game hunting clothing line on the market through an open, transparent R&D process that you get to participate in and follow along as we design, test, build and revise. Sign up for our email list (The Thread), and follow along on this post to participate and provide feedback to us along the way. The link above will also take you to a survey that will help us tremendously, so please take that if you’re so inclined.

The goal is not to make clothing for everyone. Our goal is to make clothing for western backcountry hunters that want premium products that maximize performance and minimize weight with simple, functional designs, premium (quiet) fabrics and proper fit.

GET CLOSER is our motto for the Clothing Project. Ultimately, getting close is always the goal when hunting, and that idea permeates all of the clothing we will make as well as the design of the individual pieces.

Why get into clothing? The original idea for Argali was a clothing company back in 2010 when I was in graduate school. I didn’t know what I know now, nor was I in a position to fund a clothing line back then, but I got really far down the road. In some ways this is like coming back to what I wanted to do from the start.

I will also be using this thread to post photos, design sketches and ask for feedback for the next 6 months at least. So if you are interested in that, sign up for notifications on this thread as well. This thread will also be where Rokslide testers that have sample products will post photos, thoughts and experiences throughout the season.

We have 3 pieces we are going to be releasing first (with a lot more in the works). Two pairs of pants, and a midlayer fleece. I’ll post more about each of them, but here is the cliff notes:

VESPER PANT
Designed to be the ideal archery season pant for warmer weather with a quiet, lightweight 2-way stretch nylon fabric—built for comfort and stealth on early season archery hunts with the ability to use through October.

TOREX PANT
Mid-to-late season pant with quiet, comfortable 4-way stretch polyester fabric. Can be used in September, but built for mid-season performance with the ability to layer under for cold weather hunts.

GUIDE AIR FLEECE
Breathable fleece midlayer with a soft brushed interior and durable face—worn next to skin or over a baselayer. This versatile midlayer has built in air channels between insulating baffles to maximize air and moisture movement for use in a wide variety of environments.

Fire away with any initial thoughts or questions, but I’ll have more to say in the coming months.

I would love a Tiburon style pant with bigger zips and the ability to better integrate and easily remove/put on a peloton 97 style zip off bottom base layer.

I can delete this if you don't want a competitors name in here - just let me know.

All good. Appreciate the input.

Looking forward to those early season pants. So far the gold standard in that realm is the Kutana and it would be nice to see some competition there.

Also on your webpage survey there was a header for clothing material, but no selection below to choose from.

Good feedback. I'll look into the survey and get it fixed.

Excited for this Brad. I’m signed up on the website and took the survey.

Like the 3 pieces. Early season pant that truly breathes and moves while being quiet is something nobody has made YET that fits well. Kutana is kind of the leader but fit is iffy for a bunch and they could use better stretch in leg circumference, and be quieter.

Looks awesome!
Brad I know you're a tall fit athletic dude, but not everyone is 6'3 200 lbs. Please make tall sizes, and standard sizes for us short hunters. Thank you, that grid fleece looks like great

I’m interested, good fit is so important don’t skimp and try to cover a bunch of sizes with a drawstring or belt style waist. Looking forward to more details

Been testing these pieces the second half of the summer. I've got about 20 days on the Vesper Pants and Guide Air Fleece. The Vesper pants, in particular, got everything and the kitchen sink thrown at them for 8 days in Alaska this year. It hasn't been cool enough me to rock the Torex pants but looks like next week will be perfect for those in the high country where I'm headed.

I really prioritize gear that breathes well, but still holds up. It's a fine balance between not sweating my kahones off while hiking hard to a glassing knob, but can hang for 120+ days a year.

For the guys asking above - I'm not built like @Brad@Argali at 5'7" and 170 lbs (most of it in my badonkadonk). I really really like the fit on these pants in 32's so far. They stack a bit for me on the boots, but my cowboy pops would be proud. Haha.

Do guys have specific things they want to know about or for me to keep an eye on this fall?

Any chance you had a 5’11” 220 pound model to build some of your sizing off of?

I mix and match so much because some companies don’t care about the short fat guy in their pants, but their tops fit great and others have good pant sizing but their tops suck.

I know, I could lose weight and make my body fit their sizing better, but that ain’t happening no matter how much I tell myself.

How about a guy that's 5'11" 220 "and not fat? lol. In seriousness, no skinny jeans. I normally have to size up a size to get my calvs in pants, then there still tight.

Just curious, what’s the use case for single chest pockets on light weight base/mid layers?
I realize that it’s pretty much the standard for every brand these days, but any time I’ve put anything meaningful in those pockets it just feels like too much for such a light weight shirt. And if you wear a bino harness it’s not even accessible, or if you run warm it’s just another patch layer of material sitting there. Just trying to make sense of this popular feature every hunting brand seems to do…

My struggle with pants is getting something that fits in both the waist and thighs/butt.

I always have to size up for my upper legs and end up with a waist that's overly large.

5'8" 210-215lb.

I'm curious about this too. I refuse to buy a base or mid with any chest pocket.

Ha! For the record I'm 6'2" 180 :). We are trying our best to make the fit for as many people as possible. We won't start out with short leg sizes, but you can always hem pants to make them shorter.
