The 22 creedmoor thread

And I’ll buy your takeoff 22-250 barrel

If another rifle shows up or another gun purchase I'll be in trouble
The 223 trainer escalated quickly.

I did get a preferred barrel coming in prison pink for the 22 Creed. The girls will love it Another 16".

Anyone using a 1-6 twist? Decided to give it a try to see if it'd help the 88's shoot better.

6tw for 22cm? Absolutely unnecessary unless shooting long solids.

1:6” twist? For 88’s? You’ll spin them apart unless you’re running really slow velocity.

Now if you go shorter, like 12” barrel I think you’d be g2g!!

Haha. 1-7” twists spin 88’s apart. 1-6” is going to be a problem most likely.

Took my son out to fill a couple whitetail for tags before the season ended. Shot one with my 300 BLK and subsonic 194 Lehighs. Once I had dragged her up to the truck, I looked out and saw three more in a great location. First big game kill with the 77 TMK (but have shot hundreds of rock chucks, prairie dogs, badgers, etc).

405 yards
77 TMK at 3406 MV (20” 1:8 Proof)
Impact velocity ~ 2550

Down in seconds, maybe went 10 yards. No autopsy pics (was cold and getting dark), but lungs were absolutely shredded when I was gutting her.

As she lay. Exit side up.

After a season of using the 80 ELD-M’s in my 18” 22 Creed, since the 88’s and 80 X’s didn’t shoot very well at all, I decided to try out some new powder and bullets. Previously used H4350 exclusively.

Went with Ramshot Grand, which is right next to R26 on the burn chart, and Sierra 95 SMK’s.
Well after a few different seating depth and charge weight tests, this is as good as it got.

However I loaded up some 88 ELD-M’s with Ramshot as well. Suppressor was a bit warm, but managed to put up this group to the right of the SMK’s. It was better than anything I had tried with H4350.

After waiting for the suppressor to cool down and adjusting the zero for the 88’s, this was the result:

It wasn’t the result I was looking for with the 95’s, but this was the original bullet that I wanted to work anyhow. Very stoked on this!

Specs:
UM Tikka
UM Ace 18” 1/7.5 throated for 88’s.
45.5g of Ramshot Grand.
3020 fps avg.

I’m going to back down to 45.0 and see if the results are the same and land right at 3000 fps. Had a slightly heavier bolt lift on some of the rounds at 45.5.

Still contemplating the switch back to 6mm for 26’ ?

Still contemplating the switch back to 6mm for 26’ ?
TBD. I'd stick with 22 if I can get the 88's to work consistently for me. However with a UM build this winter on the books, I'll have to decide for sure at some point. 22 CM, 6 CM, 6 UM..
It'll be a 7 lb gun, scoped and suppressed. (Raven, Rokstok Lite) At that weight, the 22 CM will recoil 11 ft lbs and the 6 CM with 112's will recoil 27% more at 14 ft lbs. Do I really need a 6 UM when the 22 Creed gets me to 900 yards and is a 8 mph gun?

Anyone running 88s in .22 GT?
I plan to after this barrel buy! My plan is to get a load that bests the 22 ARC with more barrel life than a 22CM and can run the 77tmk, 80X, 80M, 88M, 80.5 Fullbore, 85.5 hybrid, plus the 80 and 90 VLD as needed so it isn't just built around 1 bullet. Find the bullet and powder that makes you happy and shoot until your barrel needs replaced.

If my math on case capacity to bore area ratio is correct, it might have similar barrel life (throat wear, mostly) and ease of loading as we see for 6mm Creedmoor. Kind of a light-magnum-ness node they share with .270 Winchester and .280 AI.
