The 22 creedmoor thread

I think the good group this morning was just a statistical fluke.

I shot again to see if there was a speed difference for @The Guide. There might be.

I didn't pull and jam but I shot my 2.680 ammo and then some 2.650 ammo.

Take it with a grain of salt though because some of my brass is toast after this firing but the results line up with what I've been seeing all along.

Its a kick in the pants because PVA is marketing their 22 creedmoor chamber to be superior and ideal for longer bullets and they cost a lot more than their competitors. I'm going to shoot some deer with these 88's and then finish the barrel with 77gr TMK.
Have you shot any 88s with non bootleg brass? I wonder if the brass is causing you uncosidered/unseen issues? The case head separation would have me concerned about the headspace of the chamber but I'm sure you've done your due diligence.

I shot some professionally loaded 88s in new brass and got a mediocre group a couple pages back.

The case head failures are from when I first started loading 22 creed the die was set too short. Some of those cases probably have 15 firings with an FL sizing each time too.

Just trying to cover all the bases. Like ya said, some barrels/chambers just don't like some bullets no matter what you do to make it work.

We tried the 80 eldx/m and 88’s, and the mead 85 bthp in my dad’s tikka 22-250 that was re chambered to 22cm. The best 10 shot group we got was around 1 1/2” but most were 2-3 1/2”. Any bullet we’ve tried under 80gr has shot much better and been more in the 3/4-1/14”. It’s only getting 77tmk’s moving forward. Fighting it is a waste of our time.

We have noticed this barrel doesn’t shoot great at higher velocities. Almost every bullet we’ve tested has shot better at lower than average velocity for each bullet.

Has anyone necked down Lapua 6 Creed brass? Its my only option for quality brass in Australia, so thinking I might have to give it a try.

I did just to pressure test and compare. No issues but never shot any groups with it. It should be fine. Several guys were using it before aplha started making 22CM brass.

What’s the current thought on options for a factory 22CM?

Looks like Ruger American and Weatherby 307 are about the only sub $1500 options. Finding a ⅛ Tikka and rechambering is an option but not as easy since I don’t have a gunsmith I work with.

Wait until next year and see what other options are available? I plan to hunt with my 6arc this year anyway.

Alright I shot the first box of 69 ELDVTs.

Full transparency, shooting conditions were about as bad as a guy would want. Desert floor causing immense mirage, then barrel and suppressor mirage on top of that. Wind was gusty, left to right from 2-8 MPH.

The Garmin chrono was having a hard time picking up the shots, it kept giving me a white screen warning message something along the lines of “exceeding operating temperature ”. It only picked up 7 of the 20 shots.

All shots were back to back, only time between shots was swapping mags and turret slip after 10 shots. They fed very nicely from Tikka M and M+ mags as well as the waterman mag.

This gun is a stainless Tikka action with a 20” McGowen 8 twist stainless barrel chambered by Karl Feldkamp. Shot suppressed with a 6mm Polonium K. Maven RS1.2 Scope, UM rings, Wood Rokstok bedded to the action.

This gun/scope setup is known/verified and is VERY accurate.

I basically set this ammo up for worst possible conditions for accuracy verification so take the below with a huge grain of salt.

The first 6 shots with the gun zeroed for my current 80 ELDX lot are circled in orange, aiming at red center diamond. Beyond shot 6, I was basically aiming at a wavy, hazy, blurry, dusty, red blob in the middle of the target. Just getting the maven reticle center dot as close as possible and letting them rip.

After shot 10 I made the correction down and left to the turrets and shot 10 more. The two 10 shot groups are circled below.

In all fairness to this gun and ammo, I think it’s going to shoot really well. I will get setup one morning next week when it’s cooler and shoot more.

It’s only one box so I’ll see how the lot does over several more boxes with velocity and accuracy.

I plan to do some 10% fbi gel and gel/medium tests with it soon.

Also. Dozens of coyotes and other varmints will be shot with it. Depending on those results, our immediate group has 8 coues deer tags this year so it will likely be used on a couple of those dudes later this year. We shall see.

I wonder how they will perform on flesh as compared to the 69 TMK. Irregardless, more options is better!

Thanks my man. That will do for sure. I think preliminarily this is the varmint load.

You work out a BC on the bullet?

When I looked at the box values to get them to line up I think it needed a G1 BC of .41ish? Likely a bit high there?

If I use .41 and this guns MV these will maintain 2,000 FPS out past 750 yards at mid DA.

I’ll get them trued up next week. And eventually shoot them into some bone, hide, gel, etc.
