The 22 creedmoor thread

Hmmmmm..... n565 gave more speed in my tests .... h1000 gave 3300 fps from a 24" with 88s . Maybe h4831sc or n560 because of the your shorter barrel.....im running a 22" with 80.5s at 3200 but barrel only has 40 rounds on it so far by Sunday that'll be over 125-140 ish...
I just loaded 36-36.5-37-37.5 H1000 and flattened the last 3 around 2500fps too. That's jives with my experience with 6.5 PRC tho in that it would do basically the same thing as N565.

I only bought one box, its tempting to bail and start working on 77s and 80's.

80s are the way to roll I didn't mind the 88s in fact I shoot them from a 1-7" twist 223 ai.... but the 80.5 berger and 80 eldx have been ridiculous easy to get 1/4 moa out of and lots of speed. Was shooting 44 grains of h1000 zero pressure singes primers are great in the 22 cm in the 223 ai n540

Guys, please look over my shoulder.

Should I be flattening primers with 37.5gr 4350 and 88 eld?

My lands are at 2.700 and these were loaded OAL 2.680.

18" 1:7 barrel. Chamber option listed as "100 FB".

That velocity is telling me you’re probably closing in on pressure.

I’d try a slower powder. H4350 pressures quick.

Yeah, I was expecting to work up from there and be faster than 22-250...I was reading a lot of posts on forums with hotter loads.
How many shots? I had a carbon ring causing pressure with rl26 in under 100 firings.
40-50, just getting started.

With an 88 at 18” I think 3000 will likely be top end. New barrels can speed up significantly too, If this is a fresh barrel.

Just curious, not picking at your choice. Did you consider the 62 ELD-VT? I know the 53 V-Max is superb, but thought that new 62 might be better.
Yeah I did consider briefly but I already have a 20 inch 1:7.5 twist PBB spun onto my wife’s Sig Cross. We have her shooting the 62 VT and so far it’s been a solid shooter. She was slaying Prairie dogs out to 600 yards the other day. There’s just been enough mixed reports with the bullet to fully commit to it. (Although the 80 eld-vt in my experience has been solid in my 6 creed).

After running some rough numbers, if I can get 4K fps out of the 53 vmax, it’s a tad flatter to 400 yards than the 62 vt going 3600 fps. I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to get 3900-4K with the vmax though.

I loaded 15 rounds of a generic load at 5 shots (found pressure and dropped 1.5 grains out) just to hunt with whilst I was messing. I fired them and mild pressure signs but 100fps gain about 70 rounds later. Borescoped it to show a carbon ring started. Cleaned this and dropped 50fps and no more pressure. Will see if brass growth is enough to cure the carbon ring issue otherwise will go to 2209 (H4350) as i have lots.

My loads seem to end up using ALOT more powder but my COAL is around 2.7-2.75 with the 80 grain options and 2.8 with 88s. So have alot of freebore.

I've run with 80 eld x roughly the following to be around a half grain under pressure.

47g RL26
44.5g RL23
42g AR2209 (H4350)
41g RL16
38.5g TS15.5
36.5g AR2208 (Varget)

Velocity all similar except RL26. Accuracy also much the same.

Iv seen barrels speed up 100+fps, especially if it’s button rifled barrel. I would re evaluate speed and pressure in 100 rounds.

88 eld...Lever

34gr: 2775 fps
35gr: 2875 fps
36gr: 2940 fps

Getting pancaked primers.

I might take this barrel off and try the group buy barrel I had on deck for the next 1000 rounds...

I also have all the brass i fired yesterday full length sized...ill check that first to see if there is some fire forming going on.

Heres the bootleg brass after once fired and FLS:

34gr: 2809 fps
35gr: 2917 fps
36gr: 2947 fps

Powder is leverevolution.

That seems pretty mild for h1000 charges in a nitrided barrel.
My 18” was pushing 80elds at 3200 with 45gr of h1000 in Hornady brass. 90smks were 3080fps. That’s the top end though. No ej mks but primers are starting to flatten in warm weather.

I’d try loading one case several times. If you are running higher pressures with Hornady brass It will be done in 2-3firings. Might help give you a better idea of what’s going on.

Also you running .218 or .219 bore?

The challenges I am seeing has me concerned with adding this cartridge to my stable. I want a 22 cal pushing an 80-100 gr above 3200 with factory ammo. If it eats barrels that’s fine, just hoping they work the bugs out and a few manufacturers pick it up as a regular chambering. The lack of factory ammo and manufacturers have me thinking I am going down the SAUM path again.

90+% of my shots in 22 cal will be sub 400yards so I may just stay with a 223 as I don’t think anything under 100lbs will know the difference when hit with a 73-80 gr projectiles.

Comments are welcome as I have plenty of time to contemplate the next build.

I'm going to order or grab a box of factory ammo to compare.

Factory 80eldms depending on lot ran 3070-3120fps in mine after break in.

Are you by chance running a .218 bore?
