Graphite never worked for me. It dosnt stick to annealed necks like you would think, and not consistently. I havnt touched one since I tried the above method.

Fresh brass gets imperial lube in the neck, a carbide turning mandrel, and a one hour dry tumble in semi dirty media. Chamfer as normal and it loads like fired carbon covered necks.

You can dip the bullets in graphite instead, but I haven’t had issues with tight alpha brass using a 2 thou mandrel and ceramic beads with graphite…

Run it over a mandrel or through a sizing die with expander ball. Tumble in well used media. Go forth.

Or just shoot it with large deformations, 2nd firing will be better.

I tried that too. Wasn’t happy with the results. I havnt used the beads or graphite in years.

Alpha is pretty good out of the box when it comes to physical dimensions. Much better the lapua or Peterson in that regard.

I had the same thing happen to me with 2 boxes of alpha 6dasher. For whatever reason that lot gave me problems until I tried neolube given to me by a mechanic at work. It seems like very fine graphite suspended in alcohol that dries with a very nice slippery coating when applied with qtip.

This is what I do, with a q-tip sprayed with one shot, wipe the inside of the neck. Works well on new Alpha brass when loading 22 Creed, but I do with all new brass, regardless, .223, etc, on first loading.

We are in for double digit big game kills with the 80 ELDX. My wife made an excellent shot on this doe at 208 yards. Neck shot and she dropped like she was hit by lightning. DRT.

Now I get to build another 22 Creedmoor as she wants trade her trusty old 243 in for one.

My alpha brass did they same thing - super tight neck tension to the point of deforming projectiles. Once I ran a mandrel through it, I was able to seat projectiles just fine. No issues after the first firing.

Is anyone using the 77 LRX in the 22cm? I’ve searched but haven’t found much info. I know non lead isn’t the preferred projectile around here but I’m trying to play by the rules.

I see Barnes lists a minimum of 1:7 twist for the LRX. Has anyone tried them in a 1:8? I would like to not limit myself to the LRX, would a 7 twist limit my ability to use 77tmk, 80eldx, or 88eldm?

I want to buy a PVA Taperless barrel, but I'm wondering if I could get it thinner than the 0.68". My UL AR has a Shaw barrel that is 0.5" for the last 9".

I have a 270 that is .565 at the muzzle. The walls are only .144 at that point.
With .500 at the muzzle, you'd have .138 walls from a 22 centerfire. .512 at the muzzle would give you that same .144

Here's some other info I've found. Sounds like 0.137" is the bare minimum, but 0.15" is recommended.

My son and I went out to shoot this morning. Perfect day with slight cloud cover and not even a whisper of wind.

Here is the result of my original lot from Hornady that I’ve been hunting with. 10 shot group all inside 1” square at 100. I’ve been using 3125 for my calcs, see the average here and ES on the Garmin…





And here is the 10 shot group at 100 from the newer lot, along with Garmin chrono data. Also a 1” square.





Low sample size but lines up with what I’ve seen from “groups” between the two different lots. I’ll use the unhappy lot for practice and training and keep the other lot for hunts until I run out.

UM is loading me up some 88 ELDM in Peterson brass to try out as well. I have another factory tikka barrel in 8 twist for this gun when this one is done, and an aftermarket barrel in 7 twist going on another project.

I have a few antlerless WT tags for Wyoming still, but not sure I'll make it down before the season ends (damn family Thanksgiving trip haha). I'll shoot the remaining hunting rounds (74 gr Hammer HHT) and then toss the thermal on my 22 Creed. Anxious to shoot a few coyotes with the 62 ELDVT.

Could have used my 22 Creed on a mule deer in MT yesterday, but I'd been hunting with my 7 SAUM a lot more this season and felt confident out to 600 with it. Of course, the buck I shot yesterday was only at 315 yards haha. I'll put some big game down with the 22 CM next season.

Also to note on my post above. I’ve chronod a high percentage of the “good” lot and haven’t really seen much more than high 30s to low 40s for ES. It averages right at 1 MOA consistently.

This new lot averages closer to 1.5-2 MOA consistently and I regularly see close to 100 ES on 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 shot strings while practicing.

Just some minimal “data” to throw out there.

Wondering if 22 creed and an 8 twist barrel is more susceptible to accuracy degradation with larger velocity discrepancies? The 77 TMKs always shot 1 MOA as well, with an average of 30-40 ES. Does anyone think that 80 grain at 22CM velocity is right at the threshold for an 8 twist 19” barrel?

Crossed 1,000 rounds on the barrel today and it’s still 1 MOA with the “good” load so it’s not “dirty throat” or “dirty barrel” causing any issues with the other load I wouldn’t think.

Probably chasing my tail over nothing?
