Light winter in those parts of Wyoming have to be giving deer and pronghorn the break they need

My part of Idaho seems to be the lightest winter in a long time but snow pack numbers are still somehow about average. We have had way more rain than normal and precipitation is actually up. Just above normal temps

Pretty dire here in Northern Arizona. Zero snow on the ground. Tough start so far. Something better break soon!

Yup, I haven’t bothered to get my gear out or really even think about it. Playing on the bike all season so far with the mild temps.

Was up this last weekend in the Paddock and Lava Fire scars in SW Idaho. Snow pack looks great at 4.5k and up, with hardly any snow below that. The deer look to be doing really well so far. Hope that trend continues. Pack that snow up high and keep the critical winter range wet and mild.

I've been ice fishing 1 day in SW CO but on a higher elevation lake. Still lots of open water and not much snow hanging around. Bummer

in north idaho, the top 25% of the mountain is normal snowpack. some great powder riding this last weekend.
The bottom 75% of the mountain is severely lacking.

I know you guys don't care about California, especially the southern part, but the mountains I live in haven't had any precipitation for the last 5 months and nothing in the longer range forecasts I have seen.

They drew down my local lake "in preparation for winter" but I highly doubt we will get anywhere near enough precipitation to return it to anywhere near full this year.

Rained all night at my house in South Central AK. I could mow my yard if I wanted to. Currently 37 degrees. Two local ski places haven’t even opened. The big one is open with good snow up top, but barely has enough man made in the bottom mountain to keep things going. Extremely depressing winter.

Looks like snow started around 3000 feet. More wet January snow for the already struggling sheep population.

No snow down in the valley here but the mountains have it. I havent been up there to see how much though.

What little snow we have had down low has melted off the next day. I think the only saving grace we have had, is the snow that has fallen as been basically water.

Those SW numbers can be a little misleading, depending on the particular site. Alot of them have low median SWE values for this date, so if median is 1.2" of SWE and you have 0 it looks really bad, but really isn't.

That said, they do need to catch up a little the rest of the winter. We definitely have more snow in MT than last year, by quite a bit. I'm hoping the Rocky Mountain Front and Bob get a decent amount this year so I can fish and float again this year

i am so glad i did the Iron Dog in 2023. Looks like there will be lots of water skipping this year.
