My logic

PY minimum typical mule deer =145
PY minimum typical elk= 260

260/145=1.793103448
1.793103448x180"= 322.75" Problem solved.

You couldn't have kept it to a couple decimal points. I am an accountant and I had to sit and think about your numbers. ;)

I get the Fred Eichler comparison a lot with friends!

I've shot some good animals, but if I was on 1000 yard stalk that had a 195 buck and somewhere in the middle of the stalk a 170 jumped out, well...the 170 would die and the 195 would leave my mind completely.

and that is why Dave makes fun of me:)

I say the 180 buck equals a 345 bull. Sounds like a fun competition....my money is on Aron.

180" buck = 320" bull on OTC IMO.

I also think it depends on what other hunts Aron has planned. If he has something else to go do, he may find it real hard not to shoot a 165" buck at the trailhead and move on, instead of wasting 5-7 days trying to get a 180"er.

The question that comes to mind is who has the will power to hold out?
We know David does, he has done it before. Aron is more for the instant gratification of a satisfying kill and a freezer full of meat.
Can Aron do it?
Will he?

Only time will tell!

i'm a Eichler hunter to a T. I don't really worry about horns too much unless it's a pretty special draw tag. I'd rather just be out hunting and kill something to put in the freezer, if it's got some inches that's all the better but it's not gonna hurt my feelings if it doesn't.

I am going with Henry on this one!!! I think that the first velvet buck within range of Aron is getting a Mullet ARROW ( wrapped and fletched...party in the back....business up front...broadhead ) sent through the vitals. Lets also get these on film like drthorton said...part of RokSlides FIRST DVD!!!

In the state of colorado Im sure there are at least 5 180 class bucks taken for every 340 class bull, my vote for and even matchup would be 180 vs 320.Each state would be differnt Wyoming 180 vs 340, Montana 180vs360,Idaho 180vs330.

With archery any bull over 300" is a great trophy. Deer 180" vs Elk (?). I would say 330" would be an equal comparison.

I hardly call that wasting time in my opinion. I spent 17 days trying to kill my last backcountry mule deer over 180" and got it done on the last day. Never was one day of that a wasted day. And I had a lot of other stuff to get done as well to include going to MT to kill an elk. That was another 12 day hunt. On my mule deer hunt I passed up numerous bucks that I could have stalked in the 160" range. I could have gotten it done a lot sooner if I wanted to kill a lesser buck.

With all that being said, I am much like David and search out the biggest bone on the head of my quarry.

OTC Colorado??? Come on, give him a break! 290 minimum, OK?

180 mulies aren't that uncommon in most areas. On the other hand, 300+ bulls in OTC areas are. The big bucks just know how to hide. If you don't believe that, you haven't spent enough time looking around in November when the big boys that you think aren't anywhere around, just seem to pop out of the woodwork.
