Maybe because I was born back when you're Mom said get out of the house. You split. Me I'd hit the railroad tracks or walk through a field of peas or corn and fill my pockets and find the woods. Or go fishing. I fishing a lot. A 12 year old kid that passes hunting safety could buy a box of 22s at the local gas station and hit the bush. I'd sell night crawlers and find returnable bottles to cover my costs. I did it because I enjoyed it.
When I got to Alaska. I was hooked. Got a job as a forest fire fighter for the summer n got to sleep under lots of spruce trees around the state. With folks that really liked being out in the bush. And getting paid. I learned a lot. When I met my beautiful wife n had kids. I had a family to feed and more time than money. And I lived where we do. Got to harvest a lot of moose. And other game. Saw some of the most remote water ways around.
Because I enjoyed it and wanted more. And went after it n made it work. Now I look back over 60 years of enjoyment that our outdoors has provided. We were able to stake remote land and built a log cabin. I always new I'd get oller. And I would always have the desire to get out. Wouldn't happen if I didn't have that little extra something that just made getting out into the bush. Seeing the trees through the forest. Harvesting it's bounties to feed our family. Was just something inside me.
I'm so fortunate that I can now get on a snogo or bush plane and get out. And my beautiful wife enjoys it too. Go sit in my ground blind and watch the wildlife around the little pond. Not unusual to see or hear the wolves. Usually swans, ducks or geese. Moose n such. Or sit on the front deck and drink a fresh perked coffee of the woodstove n do some target practice. For me, livin the dream. Didn't just happen. I kinda suspect that there are folks here with the same dream, drive. It worked out for me.
Hope to see ya down the trail some day IMG_2615.JPG77A3B9D3-A852-4334-9FA9-AB762DF63FD7.jpegEF5CA638-AB6A-4BAE-A86C-B159961C7E06.jpeg992C20BA-5FE2-42F2-92F7-73EDE3B6D036.jpeg
