That hunting itch. We're starting to get dark here at night in AK. Salmon running, garden to harvest. And moose season coming up. Even had a cow n calf in the yard the other night.
I had to have a new knee installed and that kinda messed with my hunting time last year. So hopefully I'll make it up this year. Planning on flying out shortly with a buddy and getting the cabin ready. Wanna build a small dock at the lake and some cabin upgrades.
Hopefully this year I'll be able to spend September out there and probably the start of moose season in a month. I've been blessed to be able to enjoy getting out for a lifetime and just getting out is the best part about hunting for me. And the opportunity for a moose, few bears to feed the family is kinda topping on the cake.
And after not being able to get out like I used to. Just makes getting out even better.
If I could make 1 recommendation to folks it would be to try to arrange a place to get to where you can forget about the rest of the world and get back into the bush. I've written before about what it feels like to get dropped off in the middle of nowhere and get to kinda melt right into the wild surroundings. Pretty blessed for that opportunity. But I had to make it happen first. Heck I'm already there in my mind and getting anxious.
You all got any good plans you care to share

Ah the itch … you know what happens the more you scratch the more it itches. Good luck hope the knee treats you good and you have a successful year

Iv got the August 1’st sheep itch, iv had it for the past 20 or so years. My later July’s are pretty much a write off, my brains already gone lol. When hiking in, my date always gets pushed sooner, but this year is a fly in year, so holding until the 29th to take off. Love the feeling of that plane leaving me in nowhere!!

Hopefully your knee works in good! I have a baker cyst in the back of my knee on top of the one tendon that keeps getting bigger, 6.2cm it measured this spring with the ultrasound. Been waiting for a surgery date for about a year now. Typical Canadian medical system. Some days I’m tempted to stab the thing myself!
