Anybody have any outfitter recommendations for February or April? Looking to do a management or doe only archery hunt with the wife.

Tough time of year for axis in TX, especially for a bow hunt. There will be lots of natural feed and water, keeping them away from feeders and tanks.

Yeah not my choice for times but only days she can get off of work. Trying to find something that’s reasonably priced somewhere

I would skip it. Feb freeze was hard on free ranging axis and blackbuck. Im sure you could find something behind a high fence but free range the numbers took a large hit.

That's a shame. Maybe I'll give it a year or two and look into hawaii.

He did say doe which is what I keyed in on. Axis does are higher then the sky right now bringing 800-1k plus. Not alot of people going to be shooting them with the decreased numbers and high market. Makes more sense to trap them.

I've hunted axis with both these guys... got a WT deer hunt planned with DRT this year.

Good luck.

Thanks guys. Yeah I don’t care about antlers. Few outfitters I’ve emailed have said they’re not killing does because of the freeze. May put it off until 2023. $2800-$3800 for a buck just doesn’t tickle my fancy. I’d rather try to draw tags somewhere for that.

There's very few draw hunts here in Texas for axis and the ones there are pretty much suck..
You can bow hunt some day leases for 200 bucks a day with the Chace to kill a buck . I hunt a place every year that charges 150 a day and 1500 dollar kill fee if you shoot a buck.. don't get me wrong this isn't a place you are gonna go just kill one it's a hunt. But bucks are killed every year on the hunt.

A lot of place aren't shooting does. The population was hit hard during the freeze. I know a few ranchers in Rocksprings area that piled deer up for days because they froze.. if you can wait a couple years they will spring back..

Check Texas hunting forum they have an outfitter page I believe..

Wait, so I can go somewhere and trap deer??

Sign me up. I want to go full Texan and tell someone to hold my beer while I ride one!

Come on down. We can do that. Ill drink the beer and have foo foo seltzer waters for you.

Fair warning axis split in two like no horse you have ever seen. Maybe you should start with a red deer first and graduate up to axis then we can do sika..... Sika can bite and kick you at the same time. They are special. Id love to watch someone else get the shit beat out of them.

Well, I ain't as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was.

So I'd say we just start at the top of the pack, or this would need to turn into a multi trip deal.
Either way I'll be coming off, I don't think I'll ride the suckers tame.
