Long term (hopefully) evaluation of Texarado Decatur slip on boots.
After wearing Vivo forest trackers for a few years, whenever I have not been at work, my feet have finally had it with boots that have any raised heel at all. That made for long days at work where my feet would be killing me by the end of the day.
I have been trying to find a good non slip AND oil resistant work boot for awhile now. I work in a machine shop and the oil we use on the machines destroy boots very quick. The only pair I have found to last and not slip around like ice skates were the Redwing SuperSole 2.0.
I think I may have found one that will work and hopefully not wear out in 6 months or less. I will keep updating this as time goes on.
Initial impression:
The boots look and feel really well built. The leather is THICK. They are also very stiff initially. The outsole looks like it's glued to a fairly thick chunk of leather then the leather is sewn onto the upper and nailed onto the footbed. They are resoleable. The insole is leather glued onto foam and removable. They don't slip around on the oil covered sealed concrete at work.
Sizing:
I ordered a size 10 just like I wear in the Vivo's. That's the correct way to go. When I used the companies online size tool and I'm glad I went with a 10 instead of the 9.5 it recommended. They are plenty wide and have a lot of room for your toes.
Fit:
They are definitely more rigid than the Vivo's (you don't feel the ground as much). They feel more like walking around in crocs without the exposed feel and without the arch. They are pretty comfortable so far.
Cons:
They are pretty spendy at $350 and they go out of stock pretty quick. Most sizes were sold out when I bought them.
They are breaking in fairly quick. I've oiled them twice with Orbenauf's and worked a shift in them (10+ hours).
If you guys have questions I'll answer the best that I can.
