Terminus Zeus bolt lift VS Tikka

I’m about to pull the trigger on a Terminus Zeus but keep looking at the Impact 737 and just can’t decide. I want to get this purchase right since the action alone will be more expensive than any complete rifle I’ve ever bought. All of my current rifles are Tikka’s and that’s why I’m leaning toward the Zeus with 60deg bolt vs the 737 90deg. I keep reading that the 737 bolt lift is so light and smooth compared to the Zeus but is it that much a difference or are guys just being nit picky? The bolt lift on my Tikka CTR that I use the most for target shooting doesn’t really bother me but then again I don’t have anything to compare it too. Has one done a side by side with the Tikka and Zeus? I’ve been going back and forth for over a month and it’s driving me crazy lol.

What are you hoping to gain over your tikka actions? It might be easier to build what you want off of an action you already own. Tikkas have great aftermarket support for pre fit barrels and pre inleted stocks. Plus tikkas have great triggers already and you can get springs very cheap to lighten them up.

I’m planning on re barreling one of my Tikkas in 7 SAUM in the near future for a hunting rig. I’ve had a itch to build a “custom” target rifle for awhile and the Zeus QC has peaked my interest. Got the ok from the wife to get it started with some of my tax return cash.

I forgot to add what I’m hoping to gain. With the Zeus QC I get to use AW mags, a quick change system and I’d say way better parts availability in the classifieds. I like my Tikka but my biggest gripe is trying to get factory parts. I looked everywhere for a mag bolt for the 7 SAUM I’m going to build and finally gave up and bought a donor rifle.

You can get a Tikka bolt from longrifles inc

I haven’t finished it yet, but I have a long action Zeus qc, and have messed around with it quite a bit now (I’ve had it for around a year) and it is very well made. The action is very smooth and the bolt lift doesn’t feel heavy at all. Maybe a bit heavier than my Archimedes, but nothing crazy. I really like the threaded trigger pins, and if you send an email to Terminus about anything, you usually get a very quick reply from Joel himself. That’s the kind of thing that wins me over nowadays.

I’ve sent several emails asking about their Tikka bolts because I can’t find them on their product page and have yet to hear anything back.

I guess it's possible they discontinued them. That would be a bummer.

That’s what I figured. Thought I read something about them having issues with the bolt body cracking. It’s a shame because they were the only ones that I know of making aftermarket bolts.

Personally I like the light bolt cocking effort on a nice 2 lug more than the smaller throw but ive used 60 degree 3 lugs that I’d be perfectly happy with bolt lift on.

The trigger and timing have a lot to do with it too.

I would expect it to be a little stiffer than a tikka but might not feel any worse if everything is tuned up nice. I just like to go lighter lift than tikkas if I can. With a target gun, you have no need to have a scope mounted super low so the scope clearance on a 90 degree bolt is a non factor.
