Trying to get an idea of how the 79 DRT compares terminally to the 77 TMK out of a 223. I guess real question is two fold:

1. While they are diff designs, do they perform similar?

2. What is a min terminal velocity of the 77? 79? To have relatively similar results

Any insight is appreciated

1. They are both frangible, but the 77 TMK seems to have a slightly larger wound cavity and penetrates further than the DRT in 79g. I believe that is the difference between the lead core and powdered tungsten cores between the two. There is not enough data, but based on my DRT observations thus far and cross referencing to the 223 thread, the TMK appears better. However, for a non lead bullet the DRT 79 would be the best would channel of the 223 bullets to my knowledge.

2. From the .223 thread (if you have not read in its entirety I strongly recommend). The 77 TMK I believe is 1800 fps but I believe form noted same cases where it upset satisfactorily below 1800. The DRT I am not sure if they have an official listing but since it is frangible, I am using 1800 as a benchmark for all of my DRT ammo.

Hopefully someone else can expand or improve any of what I said above.

Can't help with anything else but DRT advertises expansion down to 1600. They have been out of projectiles for a while, I just ordered some and hope to give them a go next season
