Tent recommendations

Hey all, I’m looking at getting a new backpacking tent for hunting. My current one does not allow me to even sit up inside of it and I hate that. What are your recommendations for a bigger but still lightweight 1 person setup? Maybe with a vestibule as well? Thanks

Seek Outside bar none. I use a Cimarron DCF which is massive for 1 and with a nest weighs about 2lbs. Drop the nest and you are about 1lb or less. Also, made in America. There are cheaper options out there but if you really do research and follow threads on Rokslide you will start to drop them off your list quickly.

I agree that Seek Outside sets the bar. If you really just need a 1p tent then the Silex is cool cause you can get with a stove jack that'll allow you to stay warm even in late season hunts. You can also get it in DCF if you're really weight conscious.

I'd also consider the Eolus and Cimmaron if you like SO. We're hunting from September through November so the Cimmaron with the SO stove, in my mind, is the best option for a hunter/back packer.

SO’s half nest for the Cimmaron is almost 2lbs, are you using a custom nest?

I run the LBO nest, not nearly as large as even the 1/2 nest.

I really love my Tarptent Rainbow 1. I’ve had it in some pretty serious winds with good success. It is sized noticeably larger than most 1 man tents, and the arch pole creates a spacious interior. I won’t speak to long term durability yet, as I have only had it for 1 season, but it is in great shape so far.

My new Seek Outside Cimmaron light and large U Turn Stove just showed up on my doorstep Friday. I have it set up in my backyard right now letting the seam sealer cure and burning in the wood stove. First impression is that this thing is very well made, is massive for only weighing about 2.5lbs. Has about 4 times as much room as my Nemo hornet 2p which I also really like. The stove only adds a couple lbs. for sub 5 lbs it’s a one person palace with heat or a very comfortable space for 2-3 people with heat.

Another vote for the Xmid. I have the 1P and it's around 20 ounces (trekking pole supported which I always carry with me), has good head room, has two HUGE vestibules and costs 200 bucks! The 2P version of the tent is a bit heavier.

Only downside to it is that it takes some practice to get it pitched correctly. Fairly easy to do on your lawn, a bit tougher out in the field where things aren't quite so flat. Once you practice it a few times though it's really easy and sets up quick.

I've had a few tents that use a trekking pole instead of a pole. They may work for others but not for me anymore. I much prefer a tent with poles.
