I have drawn two muzzleloader tags for the Catoosa WMA both muzzleloader one in October and one in November and I'm thoroughly excited about it (even though I'm going to have to get another smoke pole)
and I'm wondering if any others here have any advice about the area?

I drew the november rifle tag there this yesr in genesis. How did you do on the hunt.
I had the opportunity to go chase bear and hog instead which I chose over catoosa based on some info I received from some guys I work with that hunted it the years prior which was as follows, it's a super tough hunt don't expect to see much after after a failed attempt to control the hog population with poisoned corn feeders.

Thanks for the info. I knew it would be a tough hunt but doing it with my dad and 2 brothers. We are from overton county. We normally do land between lakes but it has turned into a joke.

I still would have gone if other opportunity hadn't presented itself even if the deer are scarce you may walk with a couple hogs and they are fantastic table fair.

I'd recommend thicker areas near creeks between roads no more than about 1/2-1 mile apart. Hopefully near one of the maintained fields or near browse areas. Treestands are helpful to see over the mountain laurel and rhododendron or short trees. Stay in one place as much as you can as long as you have good visability.

Hunt the terrain instead of sign. The sign is usually only where they've been, and the deer are pressured quite a bit. So, the hunters are moving up and down the roads, the pattern changes.
