Tenkara Fishing?

I have been looking at at getting a Tenkara rod to take on hunting trips to do a little midday fishing on back country hunting trips. Much smaller, lighter and less gear needed that a traditional fly rod set up. You can get a full set up around 4 oz. and 18" long. I like the super simple philosophy and I'm not the type to try and "match the hatch" or change flies 15 times a day. The idea of bringing a telescoping rod, some line and a few flies really appeals to me.

Does anyone have one and use it on hunting trips? Any advise or deals out there I should look at?

Thanks

I do and enjoy it very much, haven't taken it hunting but see no reason you couldn't. The traditional fly fishing guys will laugh until you out catch them with it :).

My cousin has several of these rods. He fly fishes almost every weekend of the year. The Tenkara is what he exclusively uses now. He packs in to remote areas with the rod in his pack. He is a hunter as well, but the way he does it would be perfect for western pack in hunts.

Curtis, after you take care of PantherCity, let me know if you still have something. I've been tempted to try this as well.

If your interested, check out dragontail tenkara. Guys are based out of Idaho. Their stuff has really good reviews and really affordable. The customer service was great. I ordered their shadowfire rod (2.9 oz) and a starter kit. Should be on its way as I just ordered it yesterday. I put hands on their stuff at a fly fishing expo, great stuff.

I have one and love it. If you are fishing while hunting you must be a meat fisherman. You can catch your limit fast with worms. Here is a little tip, every cow pie will have two or three worms under it. Go for the medium pies. The dried out ones are done for and the juicy ones don't work. The in between ones have worms every time.
