Midway just got in the TC Encore Pro Hunters for anyone that may be interested. Trying to decide if I need one or not for $1,100.00.

Fwiw, I checked one out at a LGS a couple months ago, machining is nice. The only thing that gave me pause was the synthetic stock, seemed like there was a bit more molding flash left over on the finger grooves than I'd like (honestly not a big deal). It is a nice rifle, andI think there is value in it, especially if you're looking at the overall system (adding other barrels), as conventional cartridge barrels seem very reasonably priced/are made by green mountain.

Now as a standalone muzzleloader, my conversations with @ElDiablito made me decide to table the decision until I get to handle a Woodman Arms or find a good Omega. Seems like Woodman might be worth the little bit of extra coin in this context, but we will see.

Dewy, if you can wait awhile, the prices are already coming down. Watch GunBroker every now and then and you notice every week or two they drop a bit. Almost all dealers started out around $1,095 to $1,150. Prices are now into the mid-900s. They may yet fall further as we move into Spring. I have a ProHunter which I bought in 2008. It is as solid, accurate and easy to carry inline as you could hope to find. Never an issue with it.

I also take credit for TC implementing the finger-twist removable breech plug.... I met Greg Ritz at the Eastern Outdoors show in 2009 I believe, and we talked for a good 20 minutes. I suggested the one thing they could do to improve the model was add that finger-twist breech plug. You are welcome.

I think that is actually low when adjusted for inflation from when I got mine 15 years ago.

Is the finger twist breech plug compatible with older models?

It is actually called the "Speed Breech"...which I couldn't recall when I wrote that.

The current hand-removable "Speed Breech" is specific to the Pro Hunter XT and the Endeavor versions. For the older Encore/Pro Hunter versions, you need the hex wrench tool. I would assume, possible incorrectly, that you can use any year frame to mount any barrel for either era...?

I don't think so, I had a hex wrench style, and I don't think you could just swithc plugs, maybe with some machining of the barrel.

I sold my 50 cal barrel that I bought use and couldn't get to shoot. My fil had problems with his on a hunt. We're both shooting cva now, and use the frames for centerfire barrels. I wouldn't pay 1100 for one.

1100.00 seems rather high for a TC Ecore. Haus of arms was selling the stainless steel reciever and stock for 480.00. Barrels are readily avalible for under 400.00 and the last custom barrel i purchased was around 495.00.
