taxidermist wait - what would you do?

I find it comical how everyone thinks they have a World renowned taxidermist. In any event I stay clear of any taxidermist that's isn't working as a taxidermist it full time. To many horrible stories about waits and work with guys that do it part time, getting behind and never seeing day light. Secondly I stay clear of anyone who's prices are below average. With the two different shops I been using, one local and out of state shoulder mounts and run of the mill stuff it's been -6 months to about a year.

The taxi i use has below average prices. Not cause he isnt skilled, i think its cause hes so old that hes stuck in the "thats a lot of money" attitude that a lot of old people get. I dont take stuff to him cause his prices are the best, i take stuff to him because he has decades of experience and does absolutely beautiful work. If he was the highest priced taxi in the area id still want him doing my mounts. He is however one of the long wait guys. He might get on your animal right away, or he might forget for some time. But id rather wait two years for a fantastic product, than get average quality back in 7 months.

I waited 3 years. Yes 3 years for a pheasant mount. Who knows if I truly got my damn bird back. I will never go back to him and have steered other guys away from him. He's one of the best bird guys around but as a business man he sucks the big one. Just kept giving me excuses and the run around. His original estimate was 1 to 1.5 years.

My walleye was back in 3 months. The timing was just right for drop off and the guys schedule (each quarter he changes what he works on. Birds, mammals or fish). Anything I need done in the future will go to him, and that is a 2.5 hrs drive for me.

The pro giving him "more" business is one way of looking at it...but I disagree with it. He may or may not drop a pile of deer off every few years. Prioritizing his stuff means he skipped 8 of us local guys that have been giving him business and referring him for years. Burning your local support doesn't seem like a good idea IMO.

I've sent several messages (never answers if you call) and I know my friend has spoken with him directly several times. It's the normal, "been really busy with such and such but I'm working on it".

All of the other deer I've had done there or sent there have been right around a year give or take. 2 years is definitely not the norm.

As for the pro, think whitetails and facepaint. Shouldn't be hard to figure out. I wish I would've taken a screen shot before the post got deleted.
