Tarp vs Tents .. Pros and Cons please

I prefer the tent for rainstorms and bugs and the tarp the rest of the time. Which one I pack is usually a game day decision based on several factors such as time, distance, where camping, solo etc...

I'm a firm believer in a family of shelters but would start with a tarp as they are so versatile.

When going floorless I've found that mice are really only a problem at horse camps or any camp that is bare dirt so I typically camp near ridge tops. Also the bugs aren't nearly as bad there as they are down near creeks.

I've never seen a tick in the Cascades so I'm fortunate there.

What does the SS2 weigh without the nest and floor? I like the idea of being able to remove it and run just the fly.

Ask the mfr, I have no idea. It couldn't be much. Most of my camping is done via hammock. The Clark NX-250 keeps me dry, bug and rodent free and safer in thunderstorms where lightning is present.
