Targeting specific bulls?

Whose out there that has targeted specific bulls in the archery hunts ? What was your goto methods ? Sitting water, sitting wallows, calling him ? If I could I would say Spot and stalk would be the first most effective method but let’s say that isn’t on the table. Let’s hear it fellas.

I am targeting a specific bull this season. I have numerous trail cameras up and tree stand locations picked on 2 of his most frequented wallows. One for any westerly wind and another for North wind. Pretty rare to get anything else where I hunt. Elk are tough to "pattern" but I believe I have a good shot as long as another hunter doesn't have the same strategy. I'm typically a guy that likes to call bulls in and be surprised at what bull shows up. This is different as I have watched this bull for a couple of years and really have my sights set on him. He is a good 6 but nothing extraordinary. My biggest challenge will be to not shoot another bull that shows up before he does. I have little will power with elk. They are just too delicious!

That’s exactly where I am at Laramie. I typically will kill the first decent branch bull I can find, but I have a bull that I like the character of a lot and want to try to target him specifically. I’m really leaning towards the wallow game as well. My position though on it will be a ground blind because the trees in that specific area wouldn’t allow a treestand. I may end up setting one on a incoming trail as well. I love eating elk!

I've got my eye on a big 380+ bull this fall, hope he sticks around. My plan is to call and get as close as I can to bugling bulls and get glass on them until I find him. I know the drainage and have 3 weeks to find him. I've tried with the bull in my Avatar for a couple of years, I've seen him multiple times, the only time I've seen him during the season I had already filled my tag. I did have him show up at noon during the first week of season and stand broadside under my treestand in front of my cam for 20 minutes while I was at work. Sat from daylight until next dark for the entire first week last fall trying to kill him, I don't think I'll ever sit a tree stand again.

One of many things I've learned from the Elknut, is to definitely target specific bulls. Particularly when multiple bulls are sounding off. When you find yourself in a situation where you have several bulls that respond to your call, pick 1 and interact with that bull. As an example, if I am in that situation, and one of those bulls is a "growler", I will only call to him and only respond to him. I won't answer the other bulls that may be sounding off. Just him. Then it's a matter of reading the encounter correctly and hopefully getting into position for a shot. Or calling him your way for hopefully a great shot opportunity.

Watch him, get to know him, he'll drop a lot of clues

Figure out his bugle

I like to do this pre-rut, definitely has a better pattern

Spot and stalk is then the game for me or ambush if I have to...
