Tallent Outfitters

OP joined yesterday to create his/her first post on Rokslide to complain about an outfitter - we've never seen this before...
Did anyone save that thread earlier this year of the guy standing in the doorway that's like 6'8''?

Books a CO elk hunt with an outfit based outta Missouri...somehow shocked his hunt was garbage.... I've seen it all

OP sorry you had a bad experience. As a resident familiar with the general area it’s easy for me to see the red flags about that hunt. However I also have aging family so I get what you were trying to provide for yours. On the bright side you are getting some good perspectives on this thread to use for future hunts wether it’s public or not.

Just returned from an elk hunt with Tallent Outfitters. They are based out of Missouri and guide elk 2nd, 3rd, and 4th season in Colorado. Not my type of hunt but went with my aging father who isn’t mobile. Weather was hot. Went 0 for 4. Outfitter claims he’s 85 percent on bulls. He shot 4 during third season out of about 30 hunter’s or more. They were all shot on the BLM land, not his ground. Don’t waste your time renting one of their houses unless you want to watch a truck parade every morning and evening, and some throughout the day. Our cabin was 750 yards from the main lodge and we could hear 3 ankle biter dogs barking in camp. Talked to a guy who was hunting the blm this year who had a cabin last year and never saw an elk last year! So, it wasn’t just the weather. Place is a money grab. The last night one of the outfitter’s buddies drove between the two houses we had rented, stopped got out and shot at a buck. Some of the most rude, inconsiderate, hunters I’ve ever been around on private ground. I felt like I was on public ground. My recommendation is to hunt somewhere else if you are looking for a private land elk hunt.
I have been out there the past 10 years and have killed I would say 70% of the time. Great outfitter for the price. If you wanted a guarantee kill you are going to have to pay 10k plus. You also probably had a private land tag and you cannot hunt public land with a private land tag if you want to hunt public land your going to have to wait years to get drawn for a tag, clearly did not do your research.

Good for you! No where did I say anything about a guaranteed kill. You clearly didn’t read the post. The outfitter told me before the hint though that he was 85 percent on bulls. I can tell you from talking to the public land guys that have hunted there several times that that is a lie! Guy doesn’t hunt the way he says he does.

Also, is it weird that the company I booked through no longer sells hunts for this outfitter? As far as research, he told me 85 percent on bulls and no driving on the ranch. I am a ma of my word and expect that out of others as well. One other thing, if it takes several years to draw the public land tag and you have hunted there the last 10, I assume you hunt private in the years you don’t draw, or it really doesn’t take several years to draw the public land tag?

Yes I hunt pro

Yes me and my group have hunted public and private throughout the years and I can say we have all had pretty good luck. It is hunting your not going to kill every year unless you are paying an absurd amount of money and clearly you don’t understand that. You said it yourself the weather was bad and you figured out about them through their reputation. I hate to argue on apps like this just hate seeing someone hunt a place one time not have any luck and try to bash a company that I personally, and my groups have had good success with over the years.

The success is the least of my worries! The trucks and side by side driving all over hell on the ranch when they aren’t supposedly going to do that is bs. Also, having 3 dogs barking 600 yards from the “stand” we were given is also bs. And the public land hunter stopping g to shoot at a buck between the 2 houses the last day is the completely bullshit. I don’t like being lied to that’s all.

Always been good guys, and have I’ve always had a good hunt when I went. Sorry to hear about your experience but I wouldn’t bash a company when you went one time. Clearly they are a good company if you heard about them through the reputation. Better luck next time.

I heard about them through a reputable hunt consultant, not their reputation. We weren’t planning on going out west, got an email with a last minute deal and booked it. Clearly a mistake. If an outfitter is truly 85 percent on bulls charging under 5 k, he wouldn’t have had Sportsmans Connection and the company I booked through selling hunts for him. They would sell themselves.

I’m pretty sure they do sell hunts themselves also clearly you did not do enough research and do not understand how a migration ranch works. Next time I recommend going high fence or going to pay 10-15k for a hunt if you want an easy guarantee kill, elk are one of the hardest animals to kill and my groups have always had good luck at there ranch especially for the pricing. Have a good one do more research next time, clearly a 1st time elk hunter.

What is there to research? I talked to the owner he said they are 85 percent on bulls. It’s a lie! I went there because of an aging dad. I talked to a guy this year who was there last year and never saw an elk. You’re missing my point! Don’t tell people they will see 100 elk on a slow day if that’s not the case!

Like I said my groups have always had good luck and I’ve had days where I’ve seen thousands of elk. You said it yourself weather was bad maybe don’t say people are lying when you have went one time during bad weather, it’s hunting at the end of the day your not guaranteed anything.
