Tall boot vs shorter… What do you like and why?

I prefer trail runners, unless it is super steep terrain. I have both 6" and 8" boots for that. All depends on the load I intend to carry and the terrain.

I usually wear 7 3/4” to 8” all leather boots. I don’t have any problems with overheating. It’s the opposite actually. I get cold feet really easily. I’ve had tall 10” and I don’t like that height. I also like a hiking shoe height of about 6” for light hiking on trails. For hunting it’s always in the mid range. My favorite boots for a long time have been Meindl and I’m really liking my Altra hikers and trail runners for everyday wear.

I’m going through this decision myself right now. Typically I’ve used a 10” (lowa hunter extreme) but I’m questioning is this the right boot for an upcoming mountain goat hunt. I do have a brand new pair in the box. I’ve also been looking at the meindl comfort fit extreme which is 11”. I did use some 7.5” tall boots on a Texas aoudad hunt which worked well, I wished they were a tad taller so I’m thinking 8-8.5 might be the sweet spot??? All persons preference I suppose.
