taking the haul road with a damage waiver

Theres a fellow on this site who works for Alaska 4x4 rentals and will give discounted pricing to rockslide members. The process was super easy and convenient, they have an office at the airport and stay open late enough that you can still pick up your truck even if you're on that last arriving plane (which most people coming from lower 48 will be on) it was worth it for that alone. truck was great and no surprises at turn in time.

My insurance covers rental vehicles for the same coverage I have on my personal vehicle. Also my credit card will cover any damage I cause while in a rental vehicle. The vehicle must be rented in my personal name and not business.

Northern BC has the same problems. I rented a U-Haul to move back from Alaska in 2014. I had to sign a waiver I would not drive on the Coquihalla Highway

Not if you are driving on prohibited roads. I’ve had plenty of customers try that. They deny it every time.

Has anyone taken a rental truck from places like enterprise, alamo, avis, on the haul road? Most of these places have damage waivers and in writing saying not to go on the Dalton Hwy/Haul road. Sooooo the question has anyone done it and had issues? Or is it an ask for forgiveness and if there is no obvious major damage its fine?
We took a couple vehicles from turo. Ended up with multiple dents in the hood and a full on hole in one windshield from a rock. Paid $900 in damage

Slow down and get to the side of the road when the semis go by

Try Turo... you know exactly what you're getting. No showing up expecting a 4x4 and they have an AWD or something like that. People that put 4x4s on there do so usually expecting you to take them off the pavement. . We didn't go on the haul road, but have used them several times on trips (including March in Alaska) where we flew in and then wanted something we knew was off road capable in case a storm blew in or we ended up on a bad FS road.

I put a couple of my vehicles on Turo for a while (one of which I also used personally on the Dalton), and clearly stated no Dalton, no Denali, no McCarthy without specific discussion and significant extra fees. Vehicles were tracked to see if they went places they weren’t supposed to. Worth remembering that many modern vehicles can be remotely disabled from the same app that lets you track it. Won’t stop in their tracks while driving, but will not move again once they go into park. Pretty inconvenient on a hunt/vacation. Don’t assume just because it’s a 4x4 it’s cool to take it anywhere. Not meant to attack, just informational for anyone researching.

Yea that's a good point of clarification that I left off. The owner of the vehicle will usually state where you can can't go. At least its agreed upon and you know exactly the car you reserved. I have had friends that used Turo and there was no vehicle when they arrived. At least with a traditional car rental you have something. Personally, as a user of Turo, I have had nothing but good experiences when travelling and having specific needs for a rental.
