Using tactacam reveal pro 3.0s for the first time and they will be in a spot that’s not very accessible so I’d like to find the best battery set up I can minimize trips to change batteries. Anyone with experience with them, what would you recommend? TactiCam brand lithium battery packs, energizer AAs or off brand battery packs, other? Solar?

Notes. Camera not over bait so not taking a ton of pictures, if cheap option is nearly the same I’d go cheap but will spend the money if recommended.

I've had great luck with quality lithiums. Especially if it's not over bait or taking/sending video. Anything that takes a lot of pictures or I really don't ever want to mess with gets solar if at all possible. IMO rechargeable lithiums kind of defeat the purpose as you're still going in there to mess with them.

12 volt battery with alligator clamps inside of a pelican waterproof case, plug into external battery port on bottom of tactacam.

I've been running the tactacam reveals with their solar panel & lithium battery packs for a couple of years now, and have had good luck with them. I would recommend.

I would recommend as well... I run 3 tactacam pros w/ solar panels and energizer lithium AAs year round. None of them have dipped below 60% battery life in over a year now.

My tactacams are in a different state than I live, so I can only change batteries once or twice a year. Their solar panel with regular batteries works well. Energizer Lithium batteries, without the solar panel work well. Their brand rechargeable lithium pack works the poorest. But again, my ranking is based on my inability to change out often

They recently updated the solar panel and lithium battery and both work better.

I run a ton of these cameras.

If you can get the solar panel into direct sunlight, the lithium battery and solar panel will run the camera indefinitely. As in I’ve had a couple go years with no change.

If no direct sunlight then it’s harder. The solar panel has a built in battery so by using it you basically get double the battery life compared to no solar panel. It depends on how heavy the area is. Over a feeder? Maybe 2 months with heavy pictures. In a travel corridor? Maybe 4-6 months.

If you are in the shade and need longer look at a batrery box and put a 12v lifepo battery in it. They make ones with a solar panel also that already have the correct connectors for the battery and Tactacam camera.

Always set the delay if over a feeder to delay 3-4 minutes between pics

I just set up my first Pro 3 with rechargeable lithium battery pack. After about 2 weeks and 100 or so photos the battery was down to 43%. A week ago I hooked up the solar panel with virtually all day sun. The app now shows “external” in place of battery %. This set up was a gift, but I like it so much I’m going to buy a couple more. My question …is there any point in buying the lithium pack if I’m also running the solar panel? Are regular AAs good enough? These cameras will take less than 200 photos per month.

in winter In woods you’ll have to change the batteries some. I find the lithium packs easier and cheaper in the long run.

Not to hijack…but while this thread is up, anyone seen any deals on a 2 camera package with solar???

Solar is the way to go. I was skeptical, but now I have many of the Tactacam panels and several of the HME solar battery packs. I run a couple cameras year round on my property entrance for trespassing and I never have to touch them with the solar panels and regular batteries. They work awesome.

With my HME solar packs, I had to splice the appropriate plug onto the pack wire to make them fit into the cameras. They work well, but the Tactacam panels are plug and play.

I have spent a boat load of money on lithium batteries to run my Tacticam 2.0 cameras. I switched to the Tacticam battery packs with solar panels last spring. Since making the switch I haven't had to touch my cameras. And this includes going through winter with freezing temps. Best move I've made and I've saved a ton of money!
