You guys make compelling arguments for both and seem to be split. I'm leaning more towards down at the moment but that's still subject to change. Any other options out there

I've pointed to this in another, similar thread in the past but it may be worth a look again. On another forum a guy accidentally got his down quilt wet and used it as a testing opportunity. Not sure if you can see the pics if you aren't a member on that forum but it's worth the read, IMO. Here is the link. Someday I may do some testing myself but for now I have enough confidence I can keep my down dry that I have no fear using it.

I had not seen that. Very interesting.
Thanks

Trigger pulled. I ordered the revelation 20 degree regular wide ( I'm a belly sleeper) with 850 fill.

Thanks for all the input it should be here in 5-7 weeks.

Yep, it's best to crawl in wet. That's what they taught us in the military. Your body heat will dry your clothes.
In a down quilt/bag? Never heard such a thing....does it get the bag/quilt wet?

Yes if you are soaked you will get ur bag soaked, but your body heat will eventually dry you out. Synthetic is obviously better to use because of wicking properties and faster dry time. I would only do it with down if i was a little damp or it was a life threatening emergency when i was soaked and freezing .

That's quick. I'm still waiting on the 20* prodigy I ordered on May 30

Let survival be your guide. If i am gonna be someplace wet, below freezing and/or cannot build a fire, I take synthetic despite the weight. If I can build a fire or the temps are above freezing and dry, I take down. if you are wet and freezing, you may die. Wrap yourself in a wet down bag some time and see, I got back spasms after shivvering all night.
