I have one of the dual zip Ultralamina, and I agree that it is annoying. It seems we weren't the only ones, because the current ones are back to single side zip.

Yk
I feel the same way. I don't really understand the whole purpose of the dual zips. I thought it had something to do with wt. savings, but like you said, the new ones have a single zipper that runs 3/4 of the way down, and it's actually 5 oz. lighter than the old ones.

Enlightened Equipment deserves a look for a synthetic quilt...the Prodigy is the model I believe. Reasonably priced and the owner is on here occasionally for questions. Great customer service.

North face cats meow for me. Under 3 lbs, packs down pretty small, 150$. I'm 5'10 and 185 lbs its roomy for me. Spent almost 3 weeks in the Brooks range last fall with this bag with temperatures in the teens at night and was always warm once I got into my bag. The tent I was in rained condensate several nights and the bag was always dry when I came back to it each night.

Well I slept outside on my deck last night with the Wiggys. It was -11 at 2am when I checked. I woke up only once other than that and I went inside around 5am. The only thing that got cold were my feet.

I'm not sure what model bag I have yet but I know it kept me warm to at least several degrees below 0. Might be a decent bag for winter camping when weight isn't an issue.

HAHA that is awesome!!! Thats the first time I've heard of someone not knowing their bag rating so just said "screw it, its -10 and we'll see if I get cold and go from there to find out". Likely the best way to know what any bags true rating is for you, just thought that was awesome!!! Was Mrs. Muche impressed? :D

Did you have any dead space at the bottom of the bag Nick? Mine is slightly too long, and I have taken to filling up the dead space with clothes to keep my feet warm. A pair of insulated booties help a lot too. I will be doing both on our winter camping trip next week.

I have the same plan with mine in the next week or so. Mine is the Ultralite 20 so I will pick a slightly warmer night:rolleyes: I always wear a pair of socks in my bag. Light if it's warm, heavy if it's chilly. Keeps toes toasty & protects my bag.

If your bag needs protecting from your toes, it's time to invest in some clippers haha.

Can't wait to try out my Wiggys. I got the Super Light 0* version, hopefully I found my perfect bag for hunts like Kodiak, POW, Float trips, and Truck Hunting in the Lower 48.

The bag is a bit long for me Becca and I think that was the issue with my feet. I wore the same socks I would have on a hunting/hiking trip and my usual merino base layers, just top and long underwear bottoms.

Mrs. Muche was quite impressed :) Actually I think the words "you are nuts" were mentioned shortly after I told her I wouldn't be joining her in bed for the night. LOL

My wife claims you are right! Naw I just worry about a sharp corner or some such.
Talked to Marc on the phone today & it sounds like my bag was one of the early "Mountain Hunter's" before they had the new tags. It was an Ultralite 20* with some mods & he calls it a 25* bag. Mine is the wide version & it's 3#8oz of pure reliable sleeping heaven:D

I've been toying with the idea of converting my wiggy to a quilt. The way the lamilite is glued to only the interior layer of fabric may leans itself to becoming a pad sleeve. Does this make sense to anybody else?

Maybe I should ask this type of question in the DIY forum, just seems like a lot of Alaskan Wiggy users are contributing to this particular thread.

Anybody tried a synthetic quilt? Obviously I make them but I used synthetic quilts for years before moving to down. All the benefits of quilts, all the benefits of synthetics. I now use synthetics mostly in warmer temps where my body generates more moisture
