SWFA Fixed vs Variable

They’re both great scopes. The 3-9 is HD with better glass. It also costs twice as much.

I know I am late to the party, but this thread and others like it have convinced me to jump on the SWFA 6x MQ backorder bandwagon. We'll see how long it takes to get one...

Looking to transition some of my scopes over to something that holds zero better. Was looking at Nightforce SHV, but then remembered SWFA. I hunt in the Midwest mostly, so shots are usually under 400yds…a lot of times much closer. I was looking at the 6x, but for timber the 3-9 or 2.5-10 on low power would be more practical. My question is, do the variable power scopes hold zero and track as well as the fixed power?

I have the the 6, 3-9 and the 1-6. Love all of them. Both the hd have better glass, but the 1-6 suffers a bit at dusk with less light gathering. For long shots I would turn it down to 5 ish for mid west deer hunting. The 6 is better light gathering at dusk. Certainly easy to be on low power for close shots. The 3-9 is stop my 223 and it goes out west.

One of my 6 is on a muzzle loader to trail fixed mid western hunting, as I feared the 30 yard shot. Honestly, the simplicity of not messing with magnification when deer could be 400 or 10 several times in a sit was a pleasant benefit.

I’m going to put my other 6 on a 350 legend and pull a variable off. So I’d favor the 6.

I have a 6x on backorder and also went for a 2.5-10 rimfire for my Ruger 77/22 which I just fixed the trigger on and shimmed the bolt…she’s now worthy of a better scope as she shoots better than I anticipated.

I ordered a 6x42 MQ on 4/2 and I received it 6/12. Before my backorder arrived I called Wendy and she said they knew of upcoming shipments from Japan for the 6x but there was no timeline for the 3-9x. I bought my 3-9x on the classifieds here instead.

I don't think that feature is working on their website. I have also signed up for notifications, get an email very soon afterward and when I go to the website the scope is still backorder only. I'd either backorder and wait it out or buy one on the classifieds.

Think we could talk them into making a 2-6x 42 that’s just like the 3-9? Would anyone else want that?

If they made a fixed 8x50, in the same specs as their fixed 6, I would sell both my fixed 6 and my 3-9 and buy two of those.

Same, I would jump on that bandwagon for 5 of them right now.

I shoot with both eyes open, and thinking back used to use a 6-24 for coyotes and shot a few at close range on 6x without issue. I may start with one 6x and see how it goes. Hopefully they’ll be in stock again soon.

I killed two deer under 50 yards last season with the fixed 6. One was 30 yards. Zero issues.

I also killed two deer at 480 and 530 yards with the fixed 6. Both were DRT.
