Trying to help out my hunting buddy. He got a Tikka 223 as a trainer, and for his wife to hunt with. Topped it with a Gen 2 SWFA 6X mil quad from their first supply drop. It’s in UM Tikka rings, and everything was torqued with a Wheeler analog FAT wrench. In his shooting, one click is adjusting it a full inch, not the roughly 1/3” that a tenth mil would be. His rear scope ring is close to the turret with about 1/4” gap between ring and turret, and I’ll include a pic to show that. Is there a high chance of something binding up? Or is something wrong with the erector? The adjustment is repeatable, just not in a tenth mil as should be. Any ideas?

How many shots is he shooting in each group before adjusting it?

He’s adjusting after shooting groups of 3-5 shots. So shoot 3-5 shots, adjust a click, shoot another group, and with one click it moves an inch.
In order to diagnose if it’s the scope and not something that else under stress causing the shift, you need to check just the scope on its own.

Then we move on from there.

Understood. I will see what he can do (He’s not local to me, he’s in Montana, where we hunt)
Also, if his wife needs a scope for a hunt PM me. I have a BNIB gen 2 SWFA 6x MIL I can send you.
This is a very generous offer of you. If we do come up against an actual scope problem, I’ll reach out. Thanks very much sir
