Swfa 3-9 zero shift

Having an issue with my swfa 3-9. Not tracking, and zero shift.

Wondering if anyone else has had this issue.

This is my 3rd 3-9, had one with tracking problems and one with a canted reticle.

Have you eliminated other variables? Taken apart, confirmed screw torque, degreased, etc?

So your saying the optic is so broken just the recoil of your shots made it shift that much?

That looks like how my savage 300 wsm used to shoot. I think the root cause on that particular gun was the screws through the bases were bottoming out without actually holding the base fixed in position. I've also heard of some rails (cough EGW cough) that don't have enough material below the screw head to actually hold tight.

Some pics of the rest of your set up would be great, or I'll just buy that scope off of you.

It groups fine, but when I make a correction it's wild, and then the return to zero is non existent.

It's a consistent 1/2" gun.

Rifle is a 308 M7, Talley lw torqued properly
Shooting confirmed handloads.

The first 2 shots are touching, I made a .2up, .2 right for the poi correction.

#3 & #4 were 12" right

Rtz (.2/ .2) moved it the correct amount, like there's a dead spot in the adjustment.

have you thoroughly exercised the turrets? Are you relatively close to the mechanical center of the scope? Any chance you dialed 1.2 or 2 mils right instead of 0.2 mils right? tough to gauge distance on the paper you were shooting.

And I've had the scope for a while, but haven't ran the turrets much.

And I definitely didn't over correct on my adjustment

I had a Zeiss conquest that behaved that exact way, the POI moved 6-8 inches side-to-side, would print a couple left, a couple right and maybe one in between on the way back to the left, etc... Groups were OK (not great), but it wandered without adjustment. Factory confirmed it was bad. Wasted a lot of ammo thinking it was something with the bedding (started immediately after a new stock).

One quick check that has hosed me before, hold the rifle by the barrel and smack it with a dead blow hammer or similar. I had a talley lw crack and didn't see the crack and sure enough found it when I tore the rifle down. I popped the rifle to release from the bedding and heard the base make a funny sound.

Hopefully it's not the scope as replacements appear to be lost in space.

Sounds like the problem is isolated to the scope or the talleys then. Pretty easy problem to solve at this point if you have another scope available.

When you remove the SWFA, check the Talley to action screw torque. I failed to degrease properly on a rifle and the front screw backed off even with Loctite. Wasted a lot of ammo before I found that one...

What year was the scope made? I had a 2021 6x fail. Would be crazy off when dialed and would not return to zero.

One of the reasons I quit using Talley. I don't like not being able to check the screws and unmount without a full remount. Sports match or pic rails fix those issues for me. I also use witness marks.

But talleys are awesome when trying to keep weight down. And I've never had an issue with them.
