SWFA 3-15x42mm Gen 2 Field Eval Q&A

For those who have experience with both, for Western hunting, do you prefer the SWFA 6x or the 3-15?

If I had to choose only one- the 3-15, even though mine live on 6-7 power there are times I enjoy some extra mag and the weight penalty is minuscule. If the fixed 6 was ~ 16 ounces then it’d be a no brainer to run the 6. Really no wrong answer especially with the upgrades to turrets and zero stops

Seriously considering offloading my NXS 2.5-10 for one of these. Trying to figure out if I’d be giving anything up besides the NF name and a few ounces.

Does anyone have a comparison between this scope and the Maven RS1.2? Or RS1?

Are the Mavens worth the extra money?
The RS1 failed the drop eval, so I wouldn’t even consider that one.

The RS1.2 is solid, as well as the SWFA 3-15. It really boils down to features. The Maven has illumination, and the SWFA doesn’t. That really wouldn’t be a deciding factor. I’ve owned both scopes. The Maven has a little better reticle for hunting, but not by a huge margin. If I were buying one of these options today, it’d probably be the SWFA. To me, the Maven isn’t worth near an extra $650 if you’re comparing new prices.

Edit: Oh, and the SWFA is lighter. And that equals less top heavy in a hunting rifle. Always a good thing

The reply above is correct but I'll add that the reticle of the SWFA is my preferred option when dialing. If I were in a defensive situation in somewhere like Wyoming I might prefer the maven
