I understand there’s roughly $1,000 difference between the two and swaro glass is miles ahead but it seems everyone is ranting and raving about the effectiveness of the image stabilization. Anyone who’s had both which would you go with?

If sitting behind glass all day and finding animals at the very first and last hints of light is your jam, I’d say the EL’s or something in that tier is what you want.

If you never put your glass on a tripod, I’d say the image stabilizer is what you want.

They make a 10x, 12x and 14x as well in the Zulu. The FOV is horrible on all of the Zulus and the glass is similar to a Vortex Viper HD. The image is good in the center but the outer 20-25% is pretty poor which makes the small FOV even smaller. There are a couple pairs in the classifieds for $750 so about half what a pair of EL’s cost.

IMO the Zulus would be nice to have for walking around and glassing a lot like on a backpacking trip, they would also be awesome for road trips where you can glass while driving down the Hwy. I would have like to have a pair shed hunting last weekend since we backpacked in over 7 miles in the rain and stopping to setup the tripod was a pain and there light enough a person can still pack their regular glass.

I would save for EL’s and down the road pick up some Zulus if you have the extra money.

Concur with the above. I currently own the ELs and have used the Zulus a decent amount. If you are spending your time stationary glassing from a tripod picking apart hillsides, the ELs are the way to go. If you spend your time hiking around calling for elk and just want to glass some open areas briefly, the Zulus are great.
