There's no way in hell I'd settle for some Demo's as replacements for new. That's total bullshit ! Outdoorsman just went on my shitty company list.

If anyone is interested in a trade, I have a pair of Swaro 10x42 EL Range bino's in 100% perfect/like new condition with the Outdoorsman stud already attached that I would be willing to trade for a new pair of the same bino's without modifications. The reason being is, I bought these from a gentleman on here that had the stud installed by the factory, and I have no use for it. So basically if you wanted the same thing with a free stud I'd be willing to trade mine for yours, as long as yours were in new condition. I have all the paperwork, box, unused case, and the cap that was removed to place the stud, etc. All would go with these as long as I would be getting the same. Anyway, just thought I would throw that out there since I have no use for the stud.

Well the demos were at least in better shape than these....

Oh my gosh, Brado! That's ridiculous! Anyone hypothesize how that damage was done? Granted, I haven't seen many binos break (fortunately), but that seems pretty catastrophic. Even a dropped box doesn't seem like it would/could cause damage like that. It's more like something pryed them apart.

I can only speculate but my guess would be it happened when the binos were machined for the stud. I believe Outdoorsmans outsources the actual machining of these (I could be wrong) and I'm guessing the person that caused the damage did not want to fess up and tried shipping them off hoping their butt would be spared. But yes, your right, it appears there was some force involved one way or another.

Looks to me like the did it with the press when they pressed the stud in. Someone looked away at the wrong time or didn't have it lined up. I'm guessing the guy who did it didn't want to get held responsible and fired on the spot so they stuffed them into a box and hoped it would get blamed on ups. Ups took a look at the box and said no way to the claim. Outdoorsman owes you new Binoculars not demo's.

That is crazy! Sounds like the Binos come back inhouse to be shipped out, wonder if this prompted them doing that or what exactly happened.

I think that I would be sending "Guido" to Outdoorsmans to have a little chit chat..............

That is just plain BS.

I got mine back yesterday. 2 weeks from when they arrived at their place on the dot. Fortunately, they appear to be in one piece. But they didn't send the accessories I ordered with them. I emailed and they said they are backed up in the shop and hope to be catching up this week...
I will say they look clean. The eye distance adjustment (not sure of the technical term) is certainly tighter though.

I am glad I found this thread. I was going to send my ELs to have the stud installed, but was very put off by their casual, "too busy to go into detail" attitude. They told me to just ship them the binos and throw a note in the box explaining what I wanted. That just does not give me the confidence I need before shipping them $2K binos.

I've been very interested in doing this mod as well and was also put off by their attitude. Ask them for something in writing about the stud not voiding the warranty...crickets followed by bs. Nothing in writing that's for certain.

Happy to hear you got them back in one piece!

Brado,

Did you ever reach out to Swaro in all of this? If Outdoorsman is the only authorized people to do this mod, you would think that Swaro should know what happened as well. In my mind by Swaro "authorizing" them, they are putting their name in with Outdoorsman's quality of service.

I actually just had this done about 2 weeks ago... There stuff is nice...(way overpriced IMO) but there bino adapter is money... I just sent it to them with a note and stated I did not want a silver stud....they ended up calling me and explaining that they dont offer a black stud any longer as the anodizing caused the pin to come out, the pin is pressed in. I hope I never have a problem with "warranty" issues because of the stud, but as others have stated they made it clear it was still under sworos warranty.

Mine shipped back today so should have in a few days. Talked with Cody, one of the owners, to pay and he checked them over while on the phone with me. So I'm feeling pretty good about it, I did request tracking when paying but not sure if they automatically send this out.

The situation with the OP sucks, but guys are way overstating the risk of entrusting them with your binocs. Shocking such a thing would happen on the internet.

I'm in Phoenix today so stopped by their shop, I was very shocked how small it is, maybe 20x25. Of course they had everything instock to checkout except both of the pan heads :(. Customer service was greatly improve in person vs over the phone, pretty neat little small business.
