I feel like im typing a dating ad 😆 36 yr old professional thats new to SW VA. Looking to build some friendships and make hunting/fishing buddies. I live near Buchanan and spend alot of time fishing & hunting. Myself & my family of 5 do alot of camping as well. I'm also a elk addict and have ohio roots so I spend the fall bowhunting Ohio.

You’re in a great area to explore in all directions.

I’d just say watch out for sheep farmers from the Shenandoah Valley. That could be a lot of trouble.

Also, if you find yourself hanging out with mostly Virginia Tech fans, it could be a sign of a more significant problem. Talk to your doctor.

Mixing in some Wahoos would be good for your soul.

Ask them if the Rod & Gun Club is still around at The University.

The answers will be revealing.

Yes -- No -- Never heard of it.

Let me know the results if you think of it.

Good luck and happy hunting!

Welcome. I love the Buchanan area, the mountains look like they should hold some nice deer habitat. As someone from what I consider true SWVA “west of the blue ridge”, a sheep farmer, and a Virginia Tech graduate I’m somewhat offended by the previous comment. Star City Whitetails on facebook may also be a bit of help if you can filter through the garbage.

Don't take the internet too personally, you'll never get out alive.

No I think he means Buchanan east of Roanoke on I81
This is correct.

I work all over the state so I find myself hunting from the southern border to the northern border and everywhere in between. I've really grown to love chasing animals in these mountains and have had some good success in my first full season. I've personally met folks on Rokslide from many states that have become great friends & hunting partners. I hope to add onto that a little closer to home

I’m in the Richmond area but head to the mountains as much as possible. I spend a lot of time in Highland and bath county. Looking for interesting areas further south as well.

Are you in Buchanan in Botetourt county or Buchanan county? If the former I am close by, need some more hunting buddies myself. Feel free to PM

It was on Clinton's place right?

They looked at ours, he had a little more to offer.

Old run down house they fixed up for the home.

They had Clinton Bell as an extra in the movie (he is the guy who shows how to tighten the wire clips). When that scene came up in the theater on opening night, someone piped up with, “Clinton Bell? Clinton Bell? All he knows how to do is shear sheep!”

@TheArdentOutdoorsman @Billy Goat I'm headed to Rocky Mount for a wedding in May. Anything you'd recommend to do with the family? Kids are under 5 if it matters. We'll be driving in from Iowa and grabbed an AirBNB in Rocky Mount. Thanks in advance!

Off the top of my head I'm not certain, I'll ponder it.

With kids, and easy while not taking too much effort, possibly just a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Might be tired of driving once you get there, but being from Iowa, that might be an experience for the kids.

After 64/70 you might have had enough of the Mountains tho.

I grew up in Smyth country. lots of good land around the area. Hopefully youll draw one of the elk tags someday.

Also, in case you didnt know. Any elk NOT in Buchanan, Dickenson, and Wise counties are fair game during deer season with an appropriate deer tag.

While on 64/70 and coming through Beckley WVa, there's a tourist thing/trap called Tamarack. Spent years driving past it, had some folks tell me one time I should stop into the museum/culture center. It was neat, its all WVa made stuff, lots of it for sale. But some pretty cool stuff in there. Might be something to do to break up the drive. Id guess its 2.5, maybe 3 hrs from Rocky Mount.

Figured I'd check in, I'm in Lynchburg area, bowhunt national forest land as close as I can get it. Always interested in connecting and exploring new areas of the state too.
