We have 4 kids as of Dec 28 and have a 4Runner with 3rd row. It works fine for kids but it’s tight for adults. I am curious to see how the Grand Highlander is in the back.

We have had a 2019 Subaru Ascent since new my wife has put 60k trouble free miles on it. Took 4 adults on a 19 hour road trip had tons of room. We have bucket seats in the middle row which make it easy to get in the back if needed.
Hate to admit it but I like the Ascent its a nice vehicle.

She doesnt want Tahoe size

Toyota Highlander size

Recommendations ?

We have a 2022 Honda Pilot and it is great to drive with pretty decent gas mileage. It has a lot more room in the third row than the Highlander. We looked at a Grand Highlander and it was definitely more comfortable in the third row for adults than the regular Highlander. They didn’t have any in stock that were not pre sold so I can’t tell you how they drive. We had a 2017 ford Explorer when we bought the Pilot and the Pilot has way more passenger room. Good luck!

Take a look at Kia Telluride. We like our 2024 model...had it a year. Wish I would have gotten AWD but otherwise it has been great.

Also look at Subaru Ascent.

Audi Q7. We love ours. Even with the 3rd row up theres room in back to put stuff. Also nice is the seats go up individually so you can leave one down if you only need room for one more person. It also has a large pano roof and another sun roof in the back which is cool for the kids when hauling them around.

We have a Kia telluride. Really like it. Had it 3.5 years and 60k. No issues and enjoy the power / fuel economy mix. We live at 7-10k most of the year and climbs great. Averages 23mph and gets 27+ on freeway trips.

Seats 6 great and 7 is fine with kids in the back. I’m comfortable in back as adult.

Tomorrow taking 5 adults and gear skiing. That’s asking a lot out of a non full size suv.

Edit: for reference my car is a 2000 Tahoe. And I’m taking the telluride opposed to it tomorrow for more comfort…..
Ended up putting 6 adults 4 skis and two boards with gear for the trip today. It all fit and dudes in the back didn’t complain.

To boot we drove through a nasty Denver snow storm. With good tires (Toyo AT3) the AWD system did great in snow and ice.

This is my two cents.

We are currently a family of 5 left at home.

Our trip car and the wife's mom-wagon is currently a Toyota Sienna. The AWD version of the Sienna is one of the highest rated people movers out there. I own the 2022 front wheel drive version and I personally hate it. But I also live in Europe and narrow roads. I have also owned the 2016 FWD version and loved it more.

Two years ago I owned a E350 Ford Econoline and a Toyota Sequoia. The Sequoia is an absolute shit people hauler compared tot he Econoline (of course it is). The Sequoia is an absolutely shit people hauler compared to the current Toyota Sienna I own, and the 2016.

If you using it for hunting, the only tough one Mid-Size SUV is the Four Runner. Maybe the Subaru.

I have a Subaru outback, also a 2022. It is legit, but 4 people is fine and 5 sucks. I would hunt some pretty sketch country in it, being careful.

SUV's have small interiors compared to Vans. Nothing can be done to fix that. Even the Long Expedition, and Suburban are small compared to a full size van. Mid-sized SUV's are down right dinky doo compared to standard mini-vans like the Sienna and Honda Odyssey.

Does anyone have any experience with the Toyota Grand Highlander???

We have about 10k on ours, which is a hybrid. Averaging 31-32mpg. Definitely more room than the regular Highlander. 3rs row works for adults and is super comfy for kids. Not a lot of cargo room with the 3rd row up.

Overall awesome vehicle that is exactly what we wanted for a family of 4 plus dog.
