First post here. Greetings from western Oregon.

Looking for some gear advice. Here is the deal:

I like suspenders. I'm mid forties, stuff happens. Not fat, just my genetics vs. lifestyle race isn't neck and neck anymore. Nuff said probably.

I have a pair of Patagonia guide pants for ski touring that I love. Why? Because they have really comfortable, light weight & durable suspenders built in. They look to me like what the first light kenab pants had ( but I don't know for sure). Positive qualities are that they are narrower width, less elastic, narrower thickness, non absorbent, grippier/stay where you set them. Just plain light years better than your old man's suspenders.

Short of removing suspenders from a used pair of either of those previously mentioned pants, obviously, does anyone know if a suspender system like that is available by itself, aftermarket? You know, without the pants? Or, has this come up as a DIY project maybe?

Id like to add suspenders to my raingear but don't want 2" wide logger style elastic Mork and Mindy junk. Maybe scoring a set from a beat up pair kenabs or similar is the best approach...

Thanks for any ideas or leads. Just thought I'd check before searching the classifieds for "used pants". Something about that seems to scream bad idea.

First Lite, Outdoor Research, Skimo Dynafit, Norrona, Oakley, and a few others make separate suspenders. Some have clips, others will require loops on the pants. I'd recommend adding loops and using that style to keep the clips from digging in under a pack.

I like my first lite suspenders, 3 point connection, more than my Sitka, 4 point connect, system. The Fl
also maintain their shape longer. The FL have a locking clasp and the Sitka clasps just loop into belt
loops. Both of these versions are a couple of years old and newer versions may be available with different fabric and loop connect configs. The biggest downside for me with the FL is the 3 connect system. They don't fit all models of pants. Pants need to have a belt loop in the back center of pant.

Thanks for the info. I guess I should have checked those companies first. Much appreciated.
