Surefire and Tactical LED Flashlights

I have an old 6P (Xenon I think) and it is a nice light but the thing is old and so is the technology. I was looking on Surefire's website and their LED conversions are nearly as costly as a new light. So I did some searching on the internet and found some upgrades on Amazon for like $10 with mixed reviews. The funny thing is they are ALL made by Cree in the US of A but ship from China. I want an aluminum tactical light with a 1" O.D. because I use a Weaver ring to mount it on a quad rail. Easy on and off with a lock washer without tools. Has anyone used the Chinese replacement or have another 1" option? I hate the 3V batteries but they work well for this application. The longer burn time of the LED is very inviting. The 6P is only rated for 65 lumens at one hour of burn time. That is pretty short and where I live I need more range. A MiniMag LED is brighter than this relic. Any suggestions out there?

I have Surefires, 4Sevens and Fenix lights and the latter two are very good lights for the money with lots of options.

I carry Surefire and Streamlight exclusively....well worth the money.

I'd just buy a new(er) surefire if I were mounting it on a rifle.

I have two surefire 6px pro's. One is in my hunting pack and I carry the other one for work. It's dual output, which I like a lot. It has really good battery life as well. Overall I think it's a great light for the money. Can typically be had for about $80.

Look into Surefire 6PX (as shown above) or the G2X. I prefer the Tactical models due to the single output though. 320 lumens and has really impressed me with the beam pattern and throw. Even compared to the Fury at 500 lumens, it still holds its own...which aint bad for a $50 light.

SKD Tactical is having a Christmas sale right now and has the G2X Tactical in stock in both black and tan colors.

Can I swap out lamp assemblies? I like aluminum bodies better.

Not sure. These are LED, so I'm assuming you have to switch out the whole head assembly.

FWIW, I have the G2X on my rifle and haven't had a problem at all with the polymer body. Very durable IMO....and tend to be lighter than aluminum.

The Elzetta Bravo & Alpha series interest me. 25mm bodies. They are pricey but per the YouTube videos they appear to be a solid performer.

I used to use Surefire light but have switched to Solarforce lights. They are made in China but are very well built and priced well. Take rechargeable 18650 batteries and you can swap out the bulbs. Actually almost all of their flashlight parts are interchangeable. (Head, tail cap, lamp etc). Insanely bright dropins, I will never go back to surefire. Check them out. They have the same dimensions of a 6P body and they fit in the weaver ring as I have one mounted on an AK.

The Surefire E2B is the best white light currently made in my opinion. I also really like the Surefire Aviator because it has bright white light while also having red LEDs when less light is needed. To upgrade old surefires check out Malkoff Devices.

Ha! No kidding! It's getting updated. Santa brought some Magpul and Midwest Industries goodies. Saliva dripping from the corners of my suck.

Nice! Well you'll definitely see a huge difference when you light up your house at night with the new polymer and LED lights ;)

Brandon, I like the surefires but what I REALLY like is the surefire host and an LED dropin from malkoffdevices.com. Gene is a genius and his technology is always current.
