Suppressors that disappointed you and why?

Banish Backcountry...got fooled by the front door delivery option and their BOGO rimfire suppressor. The Backcountry is loud even on smaller cartridges like the 6mmARC.

I'm hoping to talk to the local dealer about ordering a Reaper

And that "free" 22lr suppressor is not worth the tax stamp cost. My buddy pulled his out a few months ago. Lol we were all like " WTF is that?" Very little suppression compared to the other 3 22lr cans there.

YHM R9, works good on a pistol but not so much on a 308 bolt gun. Not very quiet and groupings all over the place.
Wow, my R9 was my first centerfire can. I got it for my 350L but it still takes the edge off 308 and 6.5 Creed. I think it may be the best value can out there.

I’ve been eyeing the otter creek labs stainless units, anyone here have one?
Also have a polo k on a 556 AR. I like it in that application, definitely not the quietest on my 223 bolt gun but not awful. I don’t think I’d get one for a bolt gun.

Looks like there’s already a few who have mentioned the OG on this thread 😉, but the OG and raptor 4 are the only ones I regret .
Are these louder than expected? What are you running them on? Do you have any of the longer Raptors?

Sorry for the slew of questions. The OG seems to have a fan base and I have not heard any other negative opinions on the AB line.

It’s WAY louder than I expected. I shot it on my 22” 6.5 prc and my buddies 18-20” 308 ( can’t remember barrel length ) .

My only raptor is the raptor 4 , with flush mount and a 3” reflex . I was originally unhappy with the raptor 4 but learned that it was ok for a shot in the field . I was really hoping the OG would be quieter with all the new 3d printing tech and baffle designs , but I was wrong .
It really didn’t help that I got an airlock at the same time . despite it only being 1/4” longer and half the weight its suppression is in a totally different league .

The OG looks cool and I really hope they come out with tweaks to make it quieter .

The OG and AB Raptor 4/6 are both noticeably louder than the longer variants. They are also still fine options for .30 caliber short cans. I like my OG on a 21” .270 a lot. To me, it’s a great option for a 22” barrel on a .308 or other short action cartridge. But, if I was looking for “a first .30 caliber can,” I would look to a 6” option such as the TBAC UL7, Reaper, Nomad, or AB Raptor 8.

I have the 7.62 Raptor 8 w/ 3” reflex and the 7.62 Raptor 10 w/ 5” reflex. They are both good, albeit heavy, options.

If you want a short can on a .264 caliber, then get the Airlock ZG 6.5 or the OG 6.5. Airlock also has a .284 caliber option. The Airlock cans get hot fast, so they are better for hunting than an extended range session. I’m currently waiting on an Airlock ZG 6.5. When I get it, I am going to test it alongside the AB Raptor 8, 10, OG, and OG 6.5.

And Unknown just announced a .243 caliber can that’s 6 ounces, 6” (4” past barrel, 2” reflex), and 6mm. They call it the Triple 6.

There’s a lot of innovation coming out of Idaho right now. Good time to be a consumer.

Edit - the only suppressor I own with which I am disappointed is the Scythe Ti.

I had hope to find out about that innovation by now. Unfortunately, the Reaper I ordered over two months ago hasn’t come out of Idaho yet. I am beginning to regret that purchase.

Do you think the Government shutdown had something to do with that? Or is it still at Unknown?

It took longer than expected for me to get my OG 6.5, but that was due to a combination of bad timings.

The shut down certain played a big role, and then a fubar at ATF compounded the matter. I laughed it off at first.

Over two weeks ago—once Forms 3 & 4 began getting approved again—I was told it should ship that week. It didn’t.
Last week I checked on it and was told it should ship this week. There’s still time, but my gripe, which I expressed to US, was that the reason given for the delay last week was the same reason given the week prior…and that reason was 30 minutes from being corrected each time.

Business is hard, I get it. Been there, done that. And the government never helps.

I’ll go clean the sand out of my vagina…

I have couple 10 stacks and as a direct thread they are 11 oz, not bad imho. Adding the reflex adds a lot of weight, about 4 oz. My takeaway is that the reflex is not as efficient as adding baffles when weight is considered. From AB’s own data the reflex is about equal to two baffles. Two baffles weigh 1 oz, reflex 4 oz. The 10 stack is one of my favorite cans and wish they would make a 45 cal version.

I can see a 4 stack being loud. Better than nothing, but not quiet like a 8 or 10 stack.

@Yooner @Unknown Suppressors

Can you help this fella out? It’s a frustrating situation.

This was the timeline for my last purchase from Unknown.

Ordered from Unknown Suppressors on September 12th. Listed same SOT as previous order.

Emailed my SOT on September 16th to give him a heads up.

Shipped by US to my SOT on September 26th.

Delivered to SOT on September 30th. We could not log in to sign and submit forms that evening due to inability to access the ATF’s system.

Signed form on October 6th.

Form submitted to ATF on October 8th (for a trust).

Picked it up on October 31.

I was concerned, but not really complaining about the timeline above. The only thing about which I could complain is the two weeks it took US to ship it to my SOT. That might have made all the difference in getting my order two weeks earlier and having more time to play with it prior to the start of deer season. But, I don't think that is totally unreasonable. I got it in enough time to check zero with it before the rifle season opener, so I am quite happy. It's going out with me at some point this weekend, probably for my afternoon hunt on Saturday.

Sincere question … does the OG 65 make your ears ring like the OG 30 ?

Yeah, the situation for @buckleyboy is frustrating. And I’m not trying to pile on US, or be unfair on a public thread. Just wanted to see if they can help him.

Fixed it for you. Not saying the OG is a bad can, but these guys could crap in a box and 2/3 of this forum would line up for pre-orders... Call it the double-deuce!
this forum is the only reason Swfa is in business - and why maven sold as many rs1.2 as it did. Some of it is justified (I think the Swfa fixed scopes are fantastic). But they are great at marketing and mediocre at follow through and execution.

I bought the OG (two of them actually) hoping the performance would be better than existing 11 oz or less TI cans, wouldn’t add a ton of length to my gun, and wouldn’t scythe itself on me. Unfortunately, they aren’t and IMO makes too many compromises for what I want from a hunting suppressor. I’m not worried about them blowing up but their performance merits a $5-600 price tag at best.
