because of a one in a multi million round chance something happens...Id be more worried about the general guy around me doing something stupid. Gun club should probably just not allow guns on the range.

I have an Omega 30 , had it a few years now with no issues on 300WSM. Have a buddy who has blown 3 OF THEM with his 300 Win Mag tho. Silencerco replaced them all. Pretty ridiculous though.

That’s concerning to me that they keep blowing up the guy at the shop said he had never seen anything like that when I sent them the pictures

That peeled-open tube is just a covering. The baffle stack is welded, with a screw cap on each end, and a simple aluminum sleeve - the split tube in the photo - around the outside. It’s not a pressure-bearing tube, only an aesthetic cover and a blast/jet director in the event of a weld failure like this one.
So half of his bafflestack and end cap are downrange somewhere, and the pressure vented through the side when the baffle stack ruptured also resultingly ruptured the exterior aluminum sleeve. Might have been a bad weld, might have been a destructive baffle strike (less likely).

Silencerco will take care of you. I’d personally bet they’ll replace it - the rest of the bafflestack might be ok, but it also may not be - BUT - the serial number is on that aluminum sleeve, which is obviously destroyed. Easier for them to simply start over, as I don’t believe they can replace that sleeve with a duplicated serial number. You still end up with a new can in mint condition, but you have to wait a while since the new serial means a new transfer, new stamp.

OP eluded to sending it back and having it destroyed so they could remake the can with the same S/N, is that a possibility? I have always been under the impression one would have to purchase a new stamp and go through the dreaded wait again, but it would be pretty sweet if they could just make a new one with a matching serial number and bypass the alphabet boys.

As of right now it looks like silenco will be destroying my old can and sending a new one to my ffl they gave me the option of a new harvester or a omega at cost so it would be another 280 bucks they will not pay for my tax stamp due to the fact is was using hand loads in it when it failed they admitted that it was a failure in the can that was their fault and i was told I should feel lucky that they are even replacing it due to the fact the manual that comes with it says shooting hand loads voids all warranty

A lot of serious shooters use handloads and unless you are way out of spec on your load it should not have caused that. That is a pure manufacturing issue. Good luck

The thing with the hand loads also is I was build a load for the rifle and had been keeping track of the velocity and the groups and sent them all the information

I will agree to a point...in this case they stated it was their manufacturing defect that caused it. I think with that statement they should pay for the entire thing stamp included.

On the other hand they could have ended it with the warning that they do not warranty anything with hand loads. Even if as the OP says he sent them the info...as a company you don't know how good the guy is at hand loading or if he is even sending them the actual true load data (this is a general statement no pointed at the OP). Unfortunately a lot of really dishonest people wreck it for upstanding honest folks. And companies need to protect themselves to a point.

I won't dis the company for having a policy...I will say I agree again, if they are admitting poor manufacturing then they should cover it 100%. If the signs point towards straight user error then the shooter needs to take responsibility. If it is a toss up can't really tell whats going on but the shooter admits to going against the warnings and using hand loads then its the companies call.

Our range doesn't allow 50 cal. They have their reasons. I don't take it personally.

Yeah, I agree with the handload issue. Most guys that have a cans, load their own shells. I know my hand loads are way better then any factory load that I can buy.

Standard practice not to cover the silencer if you are shooting handloads. Good on them for getting you a new can free of charge minus the stamp. There are a LOT of bad reloaders out there. If I owned a company that made a product a guy could shoot reloads thru, I would include that same clause in my warranty. I am not saying your reload was bad, more giving SiCo some credit for covering the can.

Every gun company in the world voids the warranty for handloads. People blow up guns frequently. Whether it was the cause or not is a moot point. If a gun blows up and it was with factory loads, the gun company blames the ammunition company; they also frequently blow up guns. The ammunition company blames the powder manufacturers... they blame their chemical supplier... he blames his wife, she blames the dog.

I don’t even know if they would even have the ability to pay for your tax stamp. That’s uncle sam’s money, and he’s particular about those things. My guess is, they’ll be pretty generous with any upgrades you want and maybe some swag if your polite and explain that their defect caused you financial hardship and could have caused personal injury.

This gun club also hates their neighbors and probably supports standard mag bans, all while doing pledge drives for the NRA.

I would probably want a refund more than a replacement. I'd flinch from anticipating the blowup with the replacement. TBAC suppressors are good for a 300WM down to 18". May want to consider one of those instead.

I asked about a refund didn’t sound like it was a option I also email a different company about one that was comparable in size and didn’t mention what had happened and he told me that there can was to little for a 20” 300 win mag said it was safe to run over 65 grains of powder in that particular can so idk if I will be running it on my win mag when I get the new one back hopefully in under a year
