Curious on thoughts as to the probable advancement of suppressors. Is the science straightforward enough that we are pretty much at the top of what they can do within a certain size or do you think there are breakthroughs that will make them significantly more effective? Basically in the reasonable future will we see 5" or less suppressors do what 9"+ suppressors are doing now? Or are we at the limits of the physics now?

Great question-I’m on the end user side and have no clue. But would love to hear from those much smarter than me

I think the big advancements are in using materials like Ti - making those longer cans lighter without giving up noise suppression.

They've been doing that going on 10 years. The first Ti suppressors are even older than that.

I’d like to see more options that go back around the barrel vs extending out in front. More volume, less inconvenient.
You don't see that much because reflex isn't as effective at suppression.

It seems like we are at the limit. And unless they increase volume of the suppressor it’s hard to increase suppression. I do know TBAC came out with the Magnus recently which is supposedly extremely quiet for anything in its class. I believe it also has more volume size wise than the Ultra 9.

CGS is 3D printing their Hyperion. So they can design the cups/internals differently than most manufacturers can since everyone else are machining theirs. It is supposedly one of the quietest out there also.

I kinda doubt we see anything really earth shattering from most manufacturers.

Agree with the above. You just can't overcome physics. We are about at the limit for light materials and a greater volume can will always be quoted than a smaller assuming
decent design.

I don’t know the answer about the future. But I have a couple suppressors from different eras gemtech and a gen 2 thunderbeast. The difference is definetly noticeable on the ultra 7. It’s smaller, lighter, slimmer and quieter.

Even a 5 inch makes more difference than people think looking at the numbers.

Ya, 3d printing them from metals is what is new right now. We'll probably see some advancement there because they can make geometries you can't with machining. Sig's new can's are 3d printed as well.

Yes and no. Mainly over the barrel/reflex cans aren’t popular here because Americans are ignorant of suppressors. A reflex can that is 4” in front and 4” reflexed (8 inches total, but only 4” added to OAL) isn’t as quiet (“efficient”) as an 8 inch can in front of the muzzle (8 inches added to OAL). But it can be about as quiet as a 6” standard can. 2 ounces more weight to save 2” of overall length is a very good trade off.

From what Iv seen usually the guy screwing it on.

Iv personally never had one and go out of my way to make sure it doesn't happen.

Just curious on repair.

I’m not sure on repair, as with a few hundred thousand rounds I haven’t seen one with CGS cans.

Baffle strikes are caused by misalignment. If the barrel is threaded incorrectly or the can is. If both are correct, than strikes don’t happen. It’s much easier to ensure that both are good at the beginning than to worry about fixing them later.
