What’s your barrel length & twist? Factory groups & handload groups? I’m considering a new carbon barrel on my Ruger m77. Tell us what’s working for you with the 30-06 suppressed, also share any recommendations.

Don’t have any pictures, and am at work for a few more days. I had a 700 rebarreled read last year with 18” McGowan #5 1-9, yhm mini brake and a Resonator. Started as a 270 bdl that never would shoot. B&C Alaskan stock with block, timney 510 and a meopro scope. Only shoot 3 shot groups and so far everything has been at least 3/4 out to 300 with is as far all I’ll ever shoot that rifle. Handy but a little heavy. Have some 208 and 210s, but only used 16x and 180s so far no chrono. I’m pleased with it.

That sounds like a sweet setup to tug around in the hills, did you leave it as a .270 win or change the caliber?

06. It never shot under 1.5 minute as a 270. I had somewhere around 1k through it and went from a 5 1/4” at 300 yards to around 7 so a barrel change was in order. I want to shoot heavy’s, hence the 9 twist. I had a bunch of 150 interlock, 180 bull pulled fusions, 165 game king hollow points and 168 a max already loaded and don’t have a reason not to use them. It’s kind of heavy, with suppressor, sling and 3 rounds it’s 10.4 lbs on my scale. Wish I would have had the barrel fluted. If I want light I have a montana and a Tikka in 270 both with Leupys I can use.

Huge fan of Ruger 77s, but can you do a carbon fiber barrel in 77s? I’ve researched and researched and can’t find a positive answer

I honestly haven’t researched it yet, I hope there’s a carbon fiber option out there

You can get a CF Bartlein blank and have it threaded for whatever action you want to put it on.

I run a mostly factory Rem 700 30-06, had the original sporter barrel (10 twist) cut to 16” and threaded for my can. Pillar bedded the wood stock, added a spare jewel trigger I had. Got the bolt fluted and the barreled action cerakoted.

I run 125gr Sierra TMK’s and 124gr Hammer hunters at 3050. Ran them both up to 3200 with varget and never saw any pressure signs. Since these loads would be used primarily for night hunting and close range work. I just went for a mild load and didn’t mess with load devolpment since even if they shot 2moa that’s fine for 100-200 yards.
But the TMKs would shoot 2 shot groups in 0s and the hammers went about a 1” again this was with no load development. I have killed several pigs night hunting with the hammers since then.

I shoot 215 bergers and 208 eld-ms for longer shots. With RWS/ LC brass and RL17 I can run these bullets close to 2600 fps with no pressure signs. But living in the desert with huge temp swings I use H4350. With H4350. you can push them around 2500fps but both bullets shot best around 2400fps and I wanted a milder load anyway.

Running this side by side with my 18” 6.5 creedmoor pushing 140 berger vlds at 2500fps. The big .30 cal bullets are much less affected by the wind unsurprisingly. The 215s did pretty good at 1000 yards, I was a little surprised shooting it side by side with my 20” 30 Sherman Mag at 1000. Even leaving the barrel at 2400fps the 215s at 600 yards are at 1800fps and 1500 lbs of energy. To me 600 yards is a pretty easy shot with this combo in light winds.

Here is the pic of a 3 shot group at 755 with 208s. The lower left shot is where I tried to start grouping but was to close to the edge of the plate to continue so I adjusted then shot 3 more.

Here is the rifle, it currently has a NV optic mounted.
