Broomd
WKR
Been seeing a solid group of about 8 gobblers daily near the farm. But being sneaky bastids they've been giving me the slip by flying out of reach when they leave the roost in varying directions in a nearby meadow. They haven't shown much interest in the decoy spreads with live hens amongst the fellas.
Today I switched it up and hid behind a huge pine in an established pathway. No calling, I was deliberately quiet as I saw a hen fly off the roost with four toms. The yelping hen led the way down the chosen path and cleared me in my chair by about 8 feet. A group of four toms were close behind fanning and gobbling. They stopped in surprise as they saw my form near the pathway, but they didn't spook as I was still and well camo'd. The lead bird stretched out for a better look at about 15 yards and the little Mossberg 500 20g (Rem 3" #6) did it's job.
Always thankful for a morning in the turkey woods. The sights, sounds and interaction are awesome and memorable!
If you're still looking for that first bird, hang in there! Switch it up, try some variety in your hunt!
