None personal, but IIRC,
@Formidilosus has shared that 77gr TMK still opens up as low as 1400fps. Pretty sure it was on an elk out past 700yds, witnessed by a couple of other people.
yeah I've run one eldm down to 1700 and just a fat doe mostly facing me, in one side of chest and out the backside of offside ribs and drt, but have seen report and pic of hide recovered one of the same bullet at same impact speed on broadside wt buck through shoulders that made maybe 30-50 yards, that was a fairly high weight retention textbook fat mushroom peeled back such that bullet oal roughly 60% of it's starting point so I can visualize what happened with my 1700 experience and ok with it,
knowing you're transitioning to more delayed controlled expansion performance and penetration isn't an issue as sd is being retained but at the expense of the grenade we really like (I'm talking about 123 gr eldm from grendels in example above so .25 sd range)
and for decades you hear the reports that x type of bullets good down to 1600, or even 1400, obviously softer they are the better for doing as much work as you can at those speeds but just thinking a data base of results/examples here would fit in nicely...
and not to argue anything about it, just as a database to see where your own go/no go lines are and or your 'grey area range', heck some guys like 2000 fps as minimums, for most bullets here we like it seems that 1800 is the rot
personally I'm ok with the more old school performance at that 1700 fps threshold for that example and probably wouldn't worry much about a 1600 fps impact just knowing I prolly get back into the 50-100 yard recovery ranges and have to break out the old school hide and seek once you hike your arse over there...
just didn't see a thread dedicated to examples of sub 1800-1700 fps so if anyone wants to start adding, should end up a decent source of data and can't imagine a forum that has a larger collective of these examples
