Stupid ? about Colorado elk draw - which units to start building preference points?

Many should write this ^^^^^^^^down and read it over and over again
Easy to say as a resident. ;)

I have checked other states and agree they are greedier than Colorado. But then Colorado does claim to have the largest elk herd in N America, and does claim to need to reduce numbers, and is interested in the enormous flow of cash generated from NR's, so...

What I find ironic is whenever people complain about people who complain. LOL

Honestly though, if you guys don't want NR's in "your" state, just put me on a honey hole and I'll be in and out in one day. :D Shouldn't be too hard right?

OTC tags, fair prices, GPS coordinates, tolerance to your complaints...what else can Coloradoans do for you?

Hey, come on down and I'll be glad to put you on some hogs and bull reds! :D We're pretty hospitable folk down here. Luckily, most of the Californians who are moving here don't like to hunt and don't know how to fish, so we're good. ha, ha.

I went to Texas last year hog hunting.
Cost me $48 or so to hunt those stupid things - Outrageous.

From what I saw there isnt any problems with hogs in Texas -its just a ploy to get people down there and spend money on corn :)

Really? Ur not serious are u?

What I find ironic is people who haven't killed an elk in CO complain that it is getting more expensive for them to go and not kill an elk in CO.

Hunting elk is expensive for an out of stater, no question about it. As much time as you've spent on this thread, maybe you could be looking at google earth/onX and finding spots that could hold elk so you can fill your "outrageously expensive" tag. No one is forcing you to hunt in CO.

^^^More good information that should be written down^^^

Relax man. Nobody here is angry.

You should actually be thanking me, seeing as I've donated over $2K to your state game agency and probably another $1K to your economy and haven't taken anything but pictures. Heck, I even put your trout back so you can catch them! LOL

"as much time as you've spent on this thread..." LOL

Here's an idea. Don't spend so much time complaining about my responses if they bother you so much. ;)

People down here are gonna spend money on corn regardless. It's the only way they know how to "hunt" LOL
Unless of course they hire an outfitter in CO ;)

I think you are looking through the wrong lens at the post you are referring to. I know Taylor, and what he said was most likely meant to be very genuine and constructive.

Maybe . But chiming in to tell folks "quit yer bitchin" and suggesting that if someone had only spent another 10 min scouting GE they could unlock the code doesn't sound real constructive to me. Especially knowing nothing about the work that person has already put in. But there's one on every forum. If I could have closed the thread after his first rant, I would have. It had run its course by then

Newtosavage, I'm very late getting into this thread, but as a NR I would like to add a few thoughts. In your opinion, which you are absolutely entitled to, the small game license is pointless. If I'm not mistaken, that is required to take grouse, which many hunters do.

Additionally, to some the bear tag may seem pointless. I have hunted with a group of guys who have hunted the opening week of elk archery for years. They are usually very successful and are headed home every year by the time bear season begins. Having a bear tag would do them no good.

You are entitled to your opinions and they seem to allign well with what suits you. Please keep in mind that what may suit you, may not suit the next guy, or 5 guys for that matter.

As far as NR vs R spending, that's just the nature of the beast. How much revenue comes into TX every year for deer and exotic hunting from NR's? Between guided hunts and leasing ranches, NR's are doing a ton of spending. Not to mention TX doesn't have a 3, 5, or 7 day license for deer like other southern states. They make you buy the whole annual license upfront.

I'm only bringing all this up to show that many places have their situations that dont exactly suit others perfectly. Personally, I am very thankful for the structure in Colorado. I can definitely relate to not having the funds to go every year as well, but unfortunately for us, there's always someone waiting to take our place.

All great points JleMieux.

I'm also grateful for the CO structure and if in my surprise I made it sound like I wasn't, then that's my mistake.

There are always little ways to improve these regulations. I'm sure they will get plenty of feedback about the small game license requirement this year. I've seen an number of threads on several forums about it from people who were less kind than I have been. That's the nature of change too though.

You're right about the NR TX license too. When I moved back to TX about 10 years ago, I was faced with buying a season-long NR deer license. Every state has their unique take on things. I guess us NR's have been a bit spoiled being able to count on CO tags every year. If they ever follow NM's lead, I'll really be disappointed. I was a NM resident for 4 years, and never got drawn for elk. Would have cost me $44 to hunt them. LOL I drive right through NM every year to get to CO, even though I was a resident there for years. Darn shame really.
