Study finds Tatoo ink accumulates in Lymph nodes

PNAS; A new study shows tattoo ink drains into the lymphatic system and accumulates in lymph nodes, diminishing the effects of immune cells. This accumulation of ink pigment triggers both local and systemic inflammation that persists for months.

A third of American adults, roughly 32% - or about 80 million people - have tattoos, and they should read this new study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS).

Previous studies on tattoo ink have shown it to contain dangerous chemicals....
"Many tattoo inks contain chemicals that have been classified as carcinogenic — or cancer-causing — by the International Agency for Research on Cancer."

While black tattoo inks use carbon black, colored inks contain pigments designed for industrial applications such as plastics and paints. More troubling, tattoo inks are far less regulated than pharmaceuticals.

• A 2024 Swedish study tracking nearly 12,000 people found that individuals with tattoos had a 21% higher risk of malignant lymphoma compared with those without ink.
• A Danish twin study published earlier this year reported similar trends. Tattooed participants showed higher rates of skin cancer.

Has there ever been a study that didnt find something causing health issues or a higher rate of cancer?

An animal study that isn't even looking at long term health outcomes, but rather a 2 month window following intermediary markers and lacks a control (in this case skin trauma without ink).

Complete healing takes up to 6 months, so not surprising the immune system showed alterations.

The vaccine response is interesting, but not really anything practice to do with it.

There are epidemiological studies that show correlation between tattoos and lymphoma in one and skin cancer in another. This could hold up, but that data looks too weak to firmly state causation.

People would be much better off avoiding tobacco, nicotine, alcohol, charred meats, and marijuana products. As well as exercising and getting adequate sleep.

No one should feel they are healthy because they don't have tattoos. But, this adds one more thing to be considered before deciding to get a tattoo. Though concerns about infection and being stuck with crappy body art should rank higher at this point.
