String tracker

Anyone have any experience with a string tracker? I’m thinking about running one this year for turkeys. If you have any experience, did it affect arrow flight, or how loud was it? What model tracker do you recommend?

Man, The last time I saw those was 30+ years ago.

They used to be popular. I've never used them but hunted with a guy that used them back in the day. As I recall it's a lot like Carp shooting where the line helps stabilize the arrow and doesn't affect it much on very short shots but its terrible on longer shots.

Yep I use to use them back in the 80’s & 90’s. They never affected my arrow flight. I think most folks now days use a big 2” or bigger mechanical on turkeys.

Yeah I used big expandable when I shot a compound. With a trad bow it’s fixed blades only.

I use them all the time. Won't hunt hogs without one. Dang things don't seem to bleed for 100 yards.
They were originally promoted for turkeys. If you insist in body shooting then it is a great option. Works WAY better to head shoot turkeys with Solid Decaps. They don't go anywhere.

Who makes the tracker you use?

I've used one on a few deer hunts... helps locate your arrow after the shot.
Most fun was a double lung the bow felt like a fishing pole as the sting played out... went in the deer white and came out red.
Two of the shots tore the string off before impacting the deer... found both deer alright & lost one arrow
I find dealing with the string annoying... seems to want come out while walking to the stand...

My grandpa used one back in the 80s and he told me he had more issues using it than it helped with deer. He had the string freeze inside one time and had an arrow hit the dirt 10 yards in front of buck and never used one after that.

They take some diligence but they work! I only use on deer if it is raining. Try to avoid that though. Its the ticket on hogs

I have one, shot it once pretty noisy never tried it on an animal so I can’t speak to whether it matters
